EDMOND, Okla. – No. 29-ranked Northwest Missouri State hit a walk-off, two-run single in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift the Bearcats to an 8-7 win over the No. 30-ranked University of Central Missouri Mules Baseball team in the MIAA Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon, May 7, at Wendell Simmons Field in Edmond, Oklahoma.
The Mules (34-15) will now await the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship Selection Show on Sunday evening, May 10, at 9 p.m. CT on NCAA.com.
Grant Hollister was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI, while
Cole Kreisel had two hits, including his fifth home run of the season, and
Kaleb Ceola and
Drew Veatch also compiled two hits, leading UCM at the plate in the game.
Central Missouri relief pitcher
Tommy Gross (1-2) took the loss on the mound after giving up two earned runs on one hit with three strikeouts and two walks in one inning. UCM starting pitcher
Sawyer Allen threw a season-best 7 2/3 innings and allowed just one earned run on four hits with seven strikeouts and three walks on 124 pitches.
Michael Good went 3-for-6 with a homer, and Wilmer Jimenez and Chester Brooks both had two hits, pacing the Bearcats (36-15), offensively.
For the game, Northwest Missouri outhit the Mules, 12-10.
