MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. -- Central Missouri Mules Golf is tied for third after the first round of the Showdown at Shangri-La Monday, April 1 at Shangri-La Country Club. The Mules combined rounds of 273 (-11) and 291 (+7) to end the day at 4-under par (564). They are tied with Central Oklahoma, who is also at 4-under par. Rogers State currently leads the event at 6-under par (562).
The Mules were led by sophomore
Andrew Whittaker who is currently in fifth place. Whittaker fired rounds of 67 (-4) and 70 (-1) to close the day at 5-under par (137).
Close behind was sophomore
Jack Hope who is tied for sixth at 3-under par (139). Hope posted a career low first round 65 (-6) that consisted of 12 pars and six birdies. He closed the day with a 74 (+3).
Senior
Robbie Sager ended the day tied for 15th. Sager combined rounds of 70 (-1) and 73 (+2) to end the day at 1-over par (143).
Redshirt junior
Alex Gentry and freshman
CJ Phillips rounded out the top five scoring. Gentry is currently tied for 24th at 3-over par with rounds of 71 and 74 (+3). Phillips is tied for 50th at 6-over par with rounds of 72 (+1) and 76 (+5).
Competing as an individual, junior
Brooks Baldwin is tied for 15th. Baldwin carded rounds of 72 (+1) and 71 to end the day at 1-over par (143).
The Mules will play the final round of the 54-hole event Tuesday, April 2.
