CLAREMORE, Okla. – Max Holy went 4-for-4 with a double, home run and five RBIs, and
Brennen van Breusegen homered for a team-best 16th time this season as No. 2-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball defeated the Rogers State Hillcats, 14-8, in game one of a three-game MIAA series Friday, April 19, at the Diamond Sports Complex.
The Mules (38-5, 25-3 MIAA) and Hillcats (23-18, 12-16 MIAA) are slated to play game two of the series Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m. in Claremore.
Holy hit his 11th home run of 2024 in the top of the second inning – a three-run round-tripper to right-center, while also tallying two singles and double for his game-high four hits. Van Breusegen smashed his team-high 16th homer of the season in the top of the top of the seventh – a two-run home run to right-center, while
Josh Patrick had a pair of hits and drove in three runs,
Chase Heath posted two RBIs and a double, and
Carter Young added a pair of runs batted in, rounding out the UCM leaders at the plate.
Central Missouri starting pitcher
Conner Wolf (9-0) earned the win on the mound, giving up four runs – three earned – on six hits with six strikeouts and three walks in five innings.
Matthew Schure went 2-for-3, Matthew Delgado was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, and Royce Tsumura was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI, pacing Rogers State in the batter's box.
RSU starting pitcher Blake Johnson (3-5) took the loss on the rubber, surrendering five earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and four walks in six innings of work.
