WICHITA, Kan. – Second-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball upped its winning streak to eight games, completing a three-game MIAA series sweep over the Newman Jets with a 6-5 victory Saturday, March 30, at McCarthy Field.
The Mules (30-4, 18-2 MIAA) are idle until welcoming No. 24 Pittsburg State to Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field April 5-7 for a three-game conference series.
Carter Young went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI,
Jack Schark was 3-for-4 with a double and RBI, and
Jacob Steele compiled two hits in three at bats, pacing Central Missouri at the plate in the win.
UCM reliever
JD McReynolds (3-1) earned the win on the mound, allowing no earned runs on no hits in a third of an inning while
Harrison Babbitt secured his first save of 2024 after throwing two innings in relief and giving up no earned runs on just one hit with one strikeout.
Eli Wohl went 3-for-4 with a double and RBI, pacing Newman (7-28, 3-17 MIAA) offensively.
Newman starting pitcher Colby Wilson (1-5) took the loss on the rubber after surrendering five runs – three earned – on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks in five innings.
