WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Vance Tobol had four hits and
Jacob Steele tallied four RBIs as No. 2-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball defeated the Pittsburg State Gorillas, 9-1, in the opening game of a three-game MIAA series on Military Appreciation Night Friday, April 5, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
The Mules (31-4, 19-2 MIAA) and Gorillas (23-12, 13-8 MIAA) are scheduled to play game two of the series Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m. in Warrensburg.
Tobol went 4-for-5 with two triples while Steele was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs.
Cole Moore added three hits, including a triple,
Carter Young had two doubles,
Chase Heath compiled two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs, and
Jack Schark and
Max Holy each tallied two hits, rounding out the UCM leaders at the plate in the win.
Right-hander starting pitcher
Conner Wolf (7-0) earned the win on the mound for the Mules, allowing one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts and just one walk in six innings.
Austin Warkins was 2-for-4, pacing Pittsburg State offensively in the contest.
Pitt State starting pitcher Tanner Leslie (6-2) suffered the loss on the rubber after giving up four earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and zero walks in three innings.
For the game, Central Missouri outhit Pittsburg State, 19-6.
