Jacob Steele homered, and
Conner Wolf struck out four as No. 3-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball demolished the Northeastern State RiverHawks, 18-2 in seven innings, in the series opener of a three-game MIAA series Friday, March 1, at Rousey Field.
The Mules (13-3, 3-1 MIAA) and RiverHawks (9-8, 1-3 MIAA) are slated to play game two of the series Saturday, March 2, at 3 p.m. in Tahlequah.
UCM caught fire at the plate in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Central Missouri plated four runs each in the fifth and seventh and had seven runs in the sixth en route to the victory.
Max Holy went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored and four RBIs while van Breusegen hit his fourth homer of the season – a three-run home run to left-center in the sixth – and went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and Schark drove in five runs and belted his fourth round-tripper of 2023 – a three-run homer to left in the seventh, pacing the Mules at the plate. Steele added a solo homer – his fourth of the season – in the seventh, and
Carter Young,
Vance Tobol, and
Chase Heath each collected two hits in the contest.
Wolf moved to 3-0 on the mound in 2023 after throwing 5 2/3 innings and allowing just one earned run on two hits with four Ks and zero walks.
Gage Williams homered to pace the RiverHawks in the batter's box.
Northeastern State starter Chance Condit suffered the loss after giving up two earned runs on three hits with four walks and one strikeout in three innings.
The Mules outhit the RiverHawks in the game, 16-3, and worked 13 walks in the win.
