WARRENSBURG, Mo. – No. 3-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball secured a series victory over No. 9-ranked Central Oklahoma with a 6-5 win over the Bronchos in game two of a three-game MIAA series Saturday, Feb. 24, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
The Mules (11-2, 2-0 MIAA) will look to complete a series sweep of the Bronchos (11-2, 0-2 MIAA) in the series finale Sunday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m. in Warrensburg.
UCM trailed 5-3 going to the bottom of the seventh inning before scoring three runs to gain the 6-5 advantage.
Max Holy started off the scoring with an RBI single up the middle before
Chase Heath and
Carter Young belted back-to-back RBI doubles to left-center and right-center for the second and third runs of the inning.
Vance Tobol was 3-for-4 while
Brennen van Breusegen was a perfect 2-for-2 with his third home run of the season and
Josh Patrick had two hits, including his sixth homer of 2023, leading UCM offensively in the victory. Young and
Cole Moore also each had two hits.
Reliever
Jacob Moskowitz (1-0) earned the win on the mound after tossing 2 1/3 innings and allowing one earned run on four hits with one strikeout and one walk while
Matthew Gatewood secured his first save of the season after throwing scoreless eighth and ninth innings with five strikeouts and two walks.Â
Ty Hammack and Kaleb Glass each posted two hits, leading Central Oklahoma.
UCO reliever Justin Smith (1-1) took the setback on the rubber after surrendering one earned run on three hits with one strikeout in 1 1/3 innings.
