Brennen van Breusegen homered, and
Conner Wolf struck out seven as No. 3-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball rolled past the No. 9-ranked Central Oklahoma Bronchos, 15-2 in seven innings, Friday, Feb. 23, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field in the MIAA opener for both teams.
The Mules (10-2, 1-0 MIAA) and Bronchos (11-1, 0-1 MIAA) are scheduled to play game two of the three game series Saturday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m.
UCM scored in every inning of the game, highlighted by back-to-back-to-back solo homers from Steele, Holy and van Breusegen in the bottom of the second inning.
Holy went 3-for-3 with a homer,
Cole Moore was 3-for-4 with a double and triple, Patrick was 2-for-3 with a home run, double and two RBIs,
Jack Schark was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a double, and
Carter Young was 2-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs, pacing UCM at the plate in the victory.
Wolf (2-0) earned his second seven-inning, complete-game win on the mound of 2023 after allowing two earned runs on four hits with seven Ks and only two walks on 85 pitches.
Central Oklahoma starting pitcher Caleb Burchfield (1-1) suffered the setback on the mound after surrendering seven earned runs on eight hits with one strikeout in 2 2/3 innings.
