Box Score 2 PIEDMONT, Okla. – The Central Missouri Jennies (2-3, 0-0) split a doubleheader falling to the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm (4-6, 0-0) 5-3 before defeating the Missouri S&T Miners (3-5, 0-0) by a final score of 8-5 in the opening day of the Raising Cane's Softball Festival from Piedmont High School.
The Jens return to the diamond on Saturday, Feb. 17, as they take on the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm (5-6, 0-0) beginning at 12:30 p.m. before taking on No. 23 Southern Arkansas Muleriders (8-3, 0-0) at 1:30 p.m. from Tere Webber Field (on the campus of Southern Nazarene) in Bethany, Okla.
Game 1: Southeastern Oklahoma State 5, Central Missouri 3
UCM opened the scoring in the top of the first with a pair of runs off the bats of freshman
Taylor Thompson (RBI triple, scoring
Lexi Blackmon) and designated player
MaKenzie Cooper (scoring Thompson). The Savage Storm took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the inning, but the Jens tied the game in the fourth with a two-out RBI single from Blackmon that scored sophomore
Carly Youngblood.
Southeastern Oklahoma State responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth, adding an insurance run in the sixth as they picked up their fourth win of the season. UCM was paced offensively by senior
Abby Allnutt and Thompson who collected two hits each for good measure.
Game 2: Central Missouri 8, Missouri S&T 5
The Jens took an early lead with a pair of sacrifice bunts from second baseman
Morgan Shields (scoring Allnutt) and junior
Laney Killpack (scoring
Aubrie McRoberts) in the top of the second, before Missouri S&T tied the game plating a pair of runs in the third.
Central Missouri answered with three runs in the fourth and another run in the fifth jumping out to a 6-2 lead before adding two insurance runs in the seventh as junior
Amanda Hansen (1-0) picks up the win in the circle allowing three hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out two in 5 1/3 innings.
