HONOLULU, Hawaii – Reese Schaaf netted a career-high 26 points as the Central Missouri Jennies basketball team ran its winning streak to five games, surfing past the Hawaii Pacific Sharks, 70-49, in its opening game of the Hoops in Hawaii Classic Friday inside The Shark Tank on the island of Oahu.
The Jennies (7-2) are slated to close out the Hoops in Hawaii Classic with a contest at 6:30 p.m. CT (2:30 p.m. HT) against Colorado-Colorado Springs.
Schaaf went 9-of-12 from the floor, 1-of-2 from three-point range and was a perfect 7-of-7 at the free-throw line for her career-best 26 points.
Taylor Weishaar also reached double figures with 11 points. Weishaar along with
Lauren Frost snagged a team-high seven rebounds, with Weishaar also posting a team-best three blocks.
Cierra Smith chipped in a team-high three steals and dished out a team-best two assists.Â
UCM led 25-19 at the end of the first quarter before holding the Sharks (2-2) to just four points in the second quarter while netting 19 of its own to jump out to a 42-23 halftime lead and never look back the remainder of the game.
For the contest, Central Missouri shot 41 percent from the field (26-of-64), 31 percent from three-point range (5-of-16) and were 13-of-16 at the free-throw line for 81 percent.
The Jennies outrebounded Hawaii Pacific, 46-29, and outscored the Sharks in the paint, 38-14, and off turnovers, 15-7.
Ella Berge tallied 17 points and Morgan Hawkins added 11 points to pace Hawaii Pacific.
