BOLIVAR, Mo. -- Alex Gentry captured the 2023 MIAA Men's Golf Individual Championship as Central Missouri Mules golf finished fourth as a team at the MIAA Men's Golf Championship Wednesday, April 19, at Silo Ridge Country Club.
The Mules shot a combined team score of 897 (+33) to improve from fifth place to fourth on the final day of the three-day tournament. Missouri Southern took home the team title shooting 884 (+20). Washburn and Northeastern State tied for second, both shooting team scores of 886 (+22) after three days.
Gentry shot 70 (-2) in his final round Wednesday for a combined three-day total of 212 (-4) to secure the individual title. He started the day with two bogeys, but shot four-under the rest of the round to finish at two-under on the day. Gentry's win makes back-to-back individual conference title wins for the Mules, as
Matt Hoemann won individual honors at the 2022 MIAA Men's Championship.
Brooks Baldwin finished in the top ten, tied for ninth at seven-over 223. Baldwin shot his best round of the tournament, even-par 72, on the last day.
Calvin Dillon,
Cole Elling, and
Robert Sager finished the team scoring for the Mules. Dillon finished tied for 33rd, shooting 232 (+16). Elling shot a three-day total of 234 (+18) to finish tied for 36th. Sager followed close behind, shooting 235 (+19) and finishing tied for 38th.
UCM will now wait to see if they receive an at-large bid to the 2023 NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Super Regional Championship May 11-13 in Winona, Minn.
