Jennies Softball Sweeps FHSU on Senior Day, Sader Collects 200th Career Hit

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (29-14, 13-7) swept their doubleheader with the Fort Hays State Tigers (25-18, 7-9) by final scores of 10-9 and 6-4 on Sunday, April 16, from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg on Senior Day.

There were seven senior players (Abbey Fischer, Bailee Bryant, Ashlyn Cook, Kyleigh Lay, Jessica Sader, Makenzie McAtee, Peyton Corrigan) and Graduate Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach Courtney Dimmig, who were honored in a ceremony between games for their contributions to the program.

The Jens are scheduled to return to the diamond on Monday, April 17, as they conclude the home portion of their regular season with a doubleheader against the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers beginning at noon from Jennies Field.    
 
Game 1: Central Missouri 10, Fort Hays State 9
The Tigers grabbed an early one run lead in the top of the first, but UCM responded with a trio of runs in the bottom of the inning highlighted by a two-run homer from MaKenzie Cooper (her third of the season) giving the Jens a 3-1 lead.
 
FHSU took the lead back in the top of the third with four runs, but UCM quickly cut into the deficit with an RBI double from McAtee that scored Cook. After Fort Hays State scored a trio of runs in the top of the sixth, the Jens responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning.
 
Beginning with an RBI groundout from Bryant that scored Jadyn Sheffield, UCM added a pair with an RBI triple to right-center field from Cook making it a 9-7 Tiger lead. One batter later, McAtee delivered with an RBI single making it a one-run game. After an error by the centerfielder off the bat of Cooper that score Aubrie McRoberts tied the game, Sader singled through the left side of the infield to collect her 200th career hit becoming just the sixth Jennie in program history to do so.
 
With the bases loaded and one out, Carly Youngblood drew an RBI walk to take the lead 10-9 UCM completed the comeback. Lay (2-1) picked up the victory in game one allowing just two hits in 1 1/3 innings in relief, while Halle Howes and McAtee (two RBI) led UCM offensively collecting two hits each.

 
Game 2: Central Missouri 6, Fort Hays State 4
Thanks to a pair of Fischer homeruns, the Jens completed the doubleheader sweep of Fort Hays State beginning with a Cook RBI double that scored Abbey giving the Jens an early 1-0 lead after one inning, but the Tigers responded with a run in the fourth and three more in the fifth taking a 4-1 lead.  

With runners on second (Corrigan) and third (Laney Killpack) with one out and a 2-1 count in the bottom of the fifth, Fischer tied the game with a homer to right field. After a leadoff triple from Corrigan to begin the bottom of the seventh, Fischer delivered the walk-off dinger to center field for her first career multi-homer game.  

Lay (3-1) picked up her second win of the day in the circle tossing one inning in relief of Andi Siebeneck who allowed five hits and four earned runs while striking out four. Seniors McAtee, Cook (one RBI), Corrigan (two runs scored) and Fischer (two HRs, five RBI and three runs scored) led UCM offensively collecting two hits each in the doubleheader finale.
