WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies (31-14, 15-7) swept their doubleheader with the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers (15-28, 5-12) by final scores of 7-2 and 9-3 on Monday, April 17, from Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
The Jens are scheduled to return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 18, as they take on the Rockhurst Hawks for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. from Loyola Park Softball Field in Kansas City, Mo.
Game 1: Central Missouri 7, Nebraska-Kearney 2
The Jens opened the scoring in game one with an RBI single up the middle from
Makenzie McAtee that scored
Ashlyn Cook. UCM added four runs in the fourth beginning with an
Abbey Fischer RBI single that scored
Lexi Blackmon making it 2-0 Jens. After a bases loaded hit-by-pitch that scored
Jadyn Sheffield,
MaKenzie Cooper delivered with an RBI single followed by an
Abby Allnutt RBI walk extending the UCM lead to five.
UCM added a run in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Fischer, but the Lopers responded with a two-run homer in the sixth making it a 6-2 ballgame, but Central Missouri responded in the next half inning with a
Halle Howes sacrifice fly that scored
Hayden Serna.
Paige Petefish (10-3) grabbed the victory in the circle tossing six innings allowing just five hits, two runs (two earned runs) and striking out seven, while Fischer (two RBI, one run scored), Cook (two runs scored), Cooper (one RBI) and Howes (one RBI) each collected two hits to lead UCM offensively.
Game 2: Central Missouri 9, Nebraska-Kearney 3
The Lopers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Jens cut into the lead in the bottom of the inning with a solo homer from Cook (her sixth of the season). After a McAtee RBI single in the third, Central Missouri added a pair of runs in the fourth with back-to-back RBI doubles from
Laney Killpack and
Peyton Corrigan taking a 4-3 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, UCM added five insurance runs beginning with a Cooper three-run dinger that scored
Carly Youngblood and Sheffield followed by a Fischer RBI triple and the second RBI of the game from McAtee on a fielder's choice.
