WARRENSBURG, Mo. – No. 18-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball scored six runs in the seventh inning to overcome two-run deficit and rally past Missouri Western, 10-5, Tuesday, April 11, in a midweek MIAA game at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
With the win, the Mules (28-10, 19-5 MIAA) sweep the three-game, season series against the Griffons (9-27, 6-18 MIAA).
Sophomore catcher
Chase Heath went 3-for-4 with his first-career home run, a double and two RBI while
Cole Moore was 2-for-4 with a triple, and
Vance Tobol and
Carter Young each homered, pacing Central Missouri at the plate in the victory. Tobol's home run – a two-run shot – was his eighth of the season while Young's solo round-tripper was his 10th of 2023.
Right-hander
Tyler Kotsis (1-0) picked up the victory on the mound out of the bullpen for UCM, giving up one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts and zero walks in an inning.
Hunter Olson, Will Courtney and Jared Munk each had two hits, pacing Missouri Western offensively.
Griffon reliever Blake Van Hercke (1-3) suffered the loss on the rubber, surrendering five runs – four earned -- on four hits with three strikeouts and zero walks in 1 1/3 innings of work.
The Mules outhit Missouri Western in the game, 11-9.
Central Missouri is scheduled to travel to Pittsburg, Kan., for a three-game MIAA series at Pittsburg State April 14-16.
