Pittsburg, Kan. – The Central Missouri Jennies (10-5, 0-0) swept their doubleheader in day one of the MIAA/GLVC Crossover defeating the Missouri S&T Miners (7-6, 0-0) by a final score of 5-3 and beating the Truman State Bulldogs (3-8, 0-0) 8-5, on Saturday, March 4, from the Gene Bicknell Sports Complex in Pittsburg.
The Jennies return to the diamond on Sunday, March 5, as they play a pair of games against the Southwest Baptist Bearcats with first pitch of game one scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in the final day of the MIAA / GLVC Crossover from Gene Bicknell Sports Complex in Pittsburg, Kan.
Game 1: Central Missouri 5, Missouri S&T 3
Central Missouri got on the board first with an
Abbey Fischer two-RBI triple in the bottom of the second inning before the Miners responded with a run in the fourth and a pair of runs in the fifth taking a 3-2 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Jens answered with a pair of RBIs off the bat of
Ashlyn Cook followed by an RBI single from
Makenzie McAtee which proved to be the difference in the 5-3 victory. Pitcher
Mandy Hansen (1-1) picks up her first win as a Jen throwing 2 2/3 innings allowing two hits and striking out two in relief.
Game 2: Central Missouri 8, Truman State 5
After a sacrifice fly off the bat of Cook gave UCM an early 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth, the Bulldogs responded with a trio of runs in the bottom of the inning followed by another in the sixth. In the top of the seventh, the Jennies fought back to tie the game up with a two-RBI single from Cook followed by an RBI single from
Abby Allnutt sending the game into extra innings.
In the top of the eighth, the Jens would secure the victory thanks to a
Jadyn Sheffield RBI single, followed by a two-RBI single from Cook and finally another RBI single from Allnutt. The Bulldogs would respond with a run in the bottom of the inning, but their comeback would fall short.
Kyleigh Lay (1-0) picks up the win going three innings of relief allowing three hits, two runs (one earned) and striking out four while
Kaylee Diggs gets the save in the winning effort.
