Pittsburg, Kan. – The Central Missouri Jennies (12-5, 0-0) swept both games of a doubleheader against the Southwest Baptist Bearcats (5-13, 0-0) winning game one by a final score of 8-1 and game two 8-7, on Sunday, March 5, from the Gene Bicknell Sports Complex in Pittsburg.
The Jennies return to the diamond on Friday, March 10 as they begin MIAA play hosting the Missouri Southern Lions for a doubleheader with game one's first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m. from the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg, Mo.
Game 1: Central Missouri 8, Southwest Baptist 1
The Bearcats took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Jens would respond tying the game in the fourth with a
Jessica Sader RBI triple. UCM took the lead for good in the top of the fifth taking advantage of a Southwest Baptist throwing error making the score 2-1.
The Jennies added insurance runs in the seventh led off by an RBI single from
Ashlyn Cook (2-4, one RBI) followed by a two-RBI single from
Makenzie McAtee (game-high three RBIs) making it a 5-1 Jennies. After a
Lexi Blackmon sacrifice fly scored McAtee, Sader delivered again with an RBI double followed by an
Aubrie McRoberts RBI single.
Kaylee Diggs (3-1) got the victory in the circle allowing just five hits, one run and striking out five while Sader led UCM offensively going 3-4 with two RBIs.
Game 2: Central Missouri 8, Southwest Baptist 7
In the finale of the MIAA/GLVC Crossover, Central Missouri began the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to a bases-loaded walk from Sader (three walks overall). Southwest Baptist would tie the game in the top of the second, but the Jens would quickly regain the lead in the bottom half of inning with a pinch-hit inside the park homer from
Abby Allnutt making it a 5-1 UCM lead.
The Bearcats responded with a six-run fourth inning, but their lead was short lived as McAtee tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run homer. In the bottom of the seventh, the Jens secured their first walk-off win of the season off the bat of McRoberts.
