WARRENSBURG, Mo. – No. 24-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball used an 11-run fifth inning to roll past the Washburn Ichabods, 21-10 in seven innings, in the opening game of a three-game MIAA series Friday, March 31, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
The Mules (23-8, 15-3 MIAA) and Ichabods (20-12, 13-5 MIAA) are scheduled to play game two of the series Saturday, April 1, at 2 p.m. Saturday's contest is Military Appreciation Day with free admission for all active and retired military personnel and their families with a valid ID.
Cole Moore,
Chase Heath and
Jack Schark all had three hits in the game, with Moore tallying a double, three-run homer, three runs scored and six RBI, Heath posting a double and three runs batted in and Schark compiling a double, three runs scored and a pair of runs driven in, leading Central Missouri at the plate. The home run for Moore was his first of the season.
Carter Young added his ninth home run of 2023 and drove in two runs,
Brennen van Breusegen tripled, and
Vance Tobol and
Max Holy each doubled.
UCM right-handed starter
Conner Wolf (6-2) earned the victory on the mound after allowing six earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk in five innings.
Cale Savage went 1-for-3 with a home run and four RBI, pacing Washburn offensively.
Washburn right-handed starter Casey Steward (2-2) suffered the setback on the rubber, giving up nine runs – five earned – on 10 hits with two strikeouts and four walks in four innings of work.
The Mules' 21 runs marked a season-best and are the most runs in a single game since April 8, 2022, when Central Missouri defeated Missouri Southern, 21-6 in seven innings in Warrensburg.
