No. 13 Mules Baseball Sweeps Arkansas Tech in Saturday Doubleheader, 2-1 and 1-0

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – No. 13-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball swept a doubleheader against the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys Saturday afternoon, Feb. 11, at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field, winning game one, 2-1 in eight innings, before shutting out the Wonder Boys in game two, 1-0 in seven innings.

The Mules (3-3) and Arkansas Tech (2-4) are scheduled to play the series finale of the four-game series Sunday, Feb. 12, at noon in Warrensburg.

Central Missouri got the day started in thrilling fashion, winning the opener after Cole Moore smacked a walk-off single to right-center, scoring Mason Lowe from third base for the 2-1 triumph in eight innings as the contest was a scheduled seven-inning game.

Arkansas Tech scored a run in the top of the first inning to gain a 1-0 lead before the Mules answered in the bottom of the second inning when Quinton Hall hammered a 0-1 pitch over the left field fence for his first home run of the season, knotting the contest, 1-1. The game remained deadlocked at one until Moore's walk-off hit in the eighth.

Moore went 2-for-4, Hall went 1-for-2 with a home run, and Vance Tobol was 1-of-3 with a double, pacing UCM at the plate in game one.

Reliever Jake Wilson (1-0) earned the victory on the mound for Central Missouri, throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings and giving up just one hit with no walks and two strikeouts.

Cade McBride was 2-for-4 with a double and Sam Stephenson homered, leading the Wonder Boys in the opener.

Tyler Sardelli (0-1) suffered the loss on the rubber for Tech, surrendering one earned run on no hits with a walk in 1 1/3 innings out of the bullpen.

Pitching put on a clinic for the Mules in the 1-0, game two, seven-inning, shutout victory, combining for seven scoreless innings.

Freshman Brock Toney (1-0) picked up his first collegiate win on the mound in the nightcap for UCM, spinning four innings of one-hit baseball with four strikeouts and no walks, while Wyatt Clark secured his second save of 2023 after tossing a scoreless seventh inning and allowing just one hit with one strikeout.

Mule relievers Jack Payne, Aiden Smith and Harrison Babbitt added scoreless outings for Central Missouri, respectively.

UCM's lone run of the game occurred in the third inning after Moore belted a one-out triple down the right field line, prior to scoring on Brennen van Breusegen's sacrifice fly to center for the 1-0 advantage.

Moore finished the second contest 2-for-3, leading the Mules offensively.
