AUSTIN, Texas – Central Missouri Mules and Jennies track and field had four student-athletes voted to the 2022 CoSIDA Academic All-District® Track & Field Teams, it was announced Thursday, May 26.
Senior
Christopher Goodwin was selected to the men's Academic All-District Team® while
Laia Gonzalez,
Ashlan Burton and
Kayla Goodwin were all named to the women's team.
A native of Hamilton Waikato, New Zealand,
Christopher Goodwin has a 3.80 grade-point average as a graduate student and Kinesiology major. He captured his third-career All-American honor this season after finishing fourth in the men's long jump at the NCAA-II Indoor Championships in March in Pittsburg, Kan. Goodwin is currently competing in the long jump at the NCAA-II Outdoor Championships in Allendale, Mich.
Burton, a graduate student from Urbandale, Iowa, boasts a perfect 4.00 GPA and is pursuing a graduate certificate in academic advising and higher education. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology in 2019 with a 3.75 GPA and a master's degree in Kinesiology in 2021 with a 4.00 GPA. Burton earned her fifth-career All-American accolade in 2022 after placing second in the women's shot put at the 2022 NCAA-II Indoor Championships. She is a finalist for the MIAA's Ken B. Jones Award and was a recipient of the Dr. Peggy Martin UCM Senior Athlete of the Year honor. Burton is competing in the shot put and discus at the 2022 NCAA-II Outdoor Championships.
A graduate student from Barcelona, Spain, Gonzalez is a big data analytics major with a 3.89 GPA. She earned All-American honors earlier this season after finishing fifth as part of the Jennies 4x400m relay team at the NCAA-II Indoor Championships. Gonzalez is competing in the women's 400m hurdles and is on the women's 4x400m relay squad at the NCAA-II Outdoor Championships.
Kayla Goodwin, a sophomore from Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand, is a Kinesiology major with a perfect 4.00 GPA. She finished fifth in the women's triple jump at the NCAA-II Indoor Championships for her third-career All-America honor.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-June.
The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CoSIDA Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
