WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Central Missouri Jennies softball split an MIAA doubleheader against the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats Saturday, April 30, at Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex, falling in game one, 3-1, before posting a 9-8, walk-off win in eight innings in game two.
The Jennies (17-34, 8-16 MIAA) are slated to finish the 2022 regular season Sunday, May 1, with a conference doubleheader against Missouri Western Sunday, May 1, at Jennies field at noon. UCM will honor its lone senior,
Gentry Wishard, between games in a ceremony Sunday.
Game 1: Northwest Missouri 3, Central Missouri 1
In UCM's 3-1 game one loss, the Bearcats scored two runs in the top of the fifth to break a 1-1 tie and eventually hang on for the victory.
Abbey Fischer went 2-for-3 with a double while
Makenzie McAtee went 1-for-3 with a double and drove in the Jennies' lone run, leading Central Missouri at the plate.
Kyleigh Lay (6-11) was the tough-luck losing pitcher in game one for UCM after allowing three earned runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts and zero walks in a seven-inning complete-game performance.
Madison Friest went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI, pacing the Bearcats in game one.
NWMSU pitcher Breck Dickey (8-12) earned the win in the circle after allowing one earned run on eight hits with six strikeouts and one walk in seven innings.
Game 2: Central Missouri 9, Northwest Missouri State 8 (8 inn.)
Peyton Corrigan hit a ground-ball to second base, driving in
Bailey Lovelace in the bottom of the eighth inning to cap a 9-8, walk-off win for the Jennies in the nightcap.
Trailing 8-6 going into the bottom of the eighth, Central Missouri rallied for three runs on an RBI ground-out from
Aubrie McRoberts, a
Laney Killpack RBI double down the right field line and Corrigan's walk-off ground ball to second, securing the comeback victory.
Abby Allnutt went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI while
MaKenzie Cooper was 1-of-3 with a pair of runs batted in, leading UCM in the batter's box in game two.
