KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Central Missouri Jennies softball had to settle for a doubleheader split against the William Jewell Cardinals Tuesday, April 26, at the Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City, winning game one, 8-0 in five innings before falling in game two on a walk-off home run, 8-7.
The Jennies (16-33) are slated to host Northwest Missouri State in an MIAA doubleheader Friday, April 29, at 3 p.m. at Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
Game 1: Central Missouri 8, William Jewell 0 (5 inn.)
UCM used a four-run fifth inning to roll to an 8-0, run-rule win in game one.
Abbey Fischer went 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs scored and three RBIs while
Abby Allnutt added a 2-for-3 performance with a double, two runs scored and a run batted in, leading Central Missouri at the plate in the opener.
Kyleigh Lay (8-11) earned the victory for UCM in the circle, going the full five innings for a complete-game and allowing no earned runs on just one hit with five strikeouts and just two walks.
Payton Totzke went 1-for-1 at the plate and was the only hit for the Cardinals, in game one.
Sammie Welt (1-8) suffered the setback in the opener for William Jewell, allowing eight runs -- five earned -- on seven hits with one strikeout and one walk in five innings.
Game 2: William Jewell 8, Central Missouri 7
In game two, the Jennies tralied 7-4 before scoring three runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game, 7-7, only to see William Jewell hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh for the 8-7 victory.
Abbey Fischer hit her second homer of the day and drove in two runs while
Makenzie McAtee was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI, and Aubrie McRobets added a 2-for-4 showing with two RBIs, pacing Central Missouri offensively in game two.
Gentry Wishard (4-9) suffered the loss in the circle for UCM, allowing three earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts and no walks in 1 1/3 innings.
Aly Manhart was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs, leading the Cardinals (17-30) at the plate.
Sydney Parra (4-3) picked up the victory in the second contest, throwing 2 1/3 innings and surrendering three earned runs on three hits with one strikeout and no walks.
