KEARNEY, Neb. -- Central Missouri Jennies softball split an MIAA doubleheader against the Nebraska Kearney Lopers Saturday April 16, at Patriot Park, winning game one, 8-0 in five innings, before dropping game two, 3-1.
The Jennies (14-31, 7-15 MIAA) are slated to host a non-conference game against Missouri-St. Louis Tuesday, April 19, at 2 p.m. at Jennies Field at the South Recreation Complex.
Game 1: Central Missouri 8, Nebraska Kearney 0 (5 inn.)
Game one saw the Jennies score a combined seven runs in the opening three innings to jump out to a 7-0 lead and never look back.
Ashlyn Cook went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs while
Bailee Bryant was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and a double, leading Central Missouri at the plate in game one.
Kyleigh Lay (6-10) posted the victory for UCM in the circle, going the full five innings for a complete-game and allowing no earned runs on just one hit with a career-high 13 strikeouts and just one walk.
Sydney Thomason (1-3) suffered the setback in the circle in the opener for Nebraska Kearney, allowing seven runs -- six earned -- on nine hits with two strikeout and one walk in 2 1/3 innings.
Game 2: Nebraska Kearney 3, Central Missouri 1
In Central Missouri's 3-1 loss in the nightcap,
Abby Allnutt was 1-for-1 with a double and drove in the lone run for UCM, pacing the Jennies in the batter's box.
Kyeligh Lay (6-11) suffered the loss in the circle for UCM in relief, allowing two earned runs on one hit with five strikeouts and two walks in three innings.
Katie Gosker went a perfect 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs, leading the Lopers (22-18, 12-6 MIAA) offensively in game two.
Stacy Bott (7-1) picked up the victory in the second contest, throwing 1 1/3 innings and surrendering no runs on one hit with a strikeout and two walks.
