CONROE, Texas – No. 25-ranked Central Missouri Jennies softball dropped a pair of games Monday, Feb. 7, in the Arkansas Tech Winter Invitational, falling to No. 22 Texas A&M-Commerce, 2-0, and No. 1 UT-Tyler, 8-1.
The Jennies (0-4) head to the Emporia, Kan., for the Emporia State Softball Classic Feb. 18-19.
Game 1: No. 22 Texas A&M-Commerce 2, No. 25 Central Missouri 0
In game one, the Lions plated what turned out to be the only two runs of the game in the top of the fifth on a RBI triple to left-center off the bat of Leo Terry and a fielder's choice RBI from Madison Schaefer.
Ashlyn Cook had the lone hit in the contest for the Jennies -- a double.
Sadie Parks (0-2) took the loss in the circle for Central Missouri, allowing two earned runs on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
Terry led the Lions in the batter's box with her triple and RBI in four at bats.
Emily Otto (3-0) earned the win for Texas A&M-Commerce after tossing a complete-game one-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks in a full seven innings.
Game 2: No. 1 UT-Tyler 8, No. 25 Central Missouri 1
In the second game, the top-ranked Patriots scored a run each in the first and second innings before plating two in the third to jump out to a 4-0 advantage.
Halle Howes singled to left field, scoring
Makenzie McAtee to get the Jennies on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth, trimming the UT-Tyler lead to 4-1.
UT-Tyler was able to maintain control of the game in the sixth, scoring three more runs to build its lead to 7-1.
The Patriots added one more run in the seventh for the 8-1 victory.
McAtee went 2-for-3 with a run while Howes had a hit and drove in UCM's only run of the game, leading the Jennies offensively.
Gentry Wishard (0-1) took the loss in the circle for Central Missouri, allowing six earned runs on ten hits with two walks and four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
Kaylee Davis (1-0) earned the win for UT-Tyler, throwing a complete-game with eight Ks and one walk while only surrendering one earned run on five hits.
