Jennies Softball Splits Day 1 of ESU Softball Classic Tri-Quad in Maryville

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Central Missouri Jennies softball split a  pair of games Sunday, Feb. 20, in the ESU Softball Classic Tri-Quad at Bearcat Field in Maryville, winning against the No.6 Minnesota State Mavericks, 4-3, and falling to Minnesota Duluth, 8-0, in six innings.

The Jennies (1-5) are slated to wrap up play in Maryville with a pair of games Monday, Feb. 21, against Minnesota Duluth at 9 a.m. and Minnesota State at 1 p.m.

Game 1: No. 25 Central Missouri 4, No. 6 Minnesota State 3

After falling behind early, 1-0, the Jennies used a three-run top of the fourth inning to take the lead for good in game one. Bailee Bryant hit an RBI single to left to drive in the opening run of the inning before Abby Allnutt belted a two-RBI double to right-center for the second and third runs of the frame.

UCM added what turned out to be a crucial run in the top of the fifth on Bryant's second RBI single of the game, increasing the Central Missouri advantage to 4-1.

Bryant finished the game 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while Allnutt drove in two on her double, leading the Jennies offensively.

Sadie Parks (1-2) took the complete-game win in the circle for Central Missouri, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts in the full seven innings.

Torey Richards led the Mavericks (5-2) in the batter's box with a pair of hits and a run-batted-in.

Makenzie Ward (1-2) suffered the loss for Minnesota State after allowing four earned runs on 10 hits with five Ks and two walks in seven innings.

Game 2: Minnesota Duluth 8, No. 25 Central Missouri 0

In game two, Minnesota Duluth plated a combined five runs in the opening three innings of the contest to open up a 5-0 advantage and the Jennies could never recover, as the Bulldogs would go on for the 8-0, run-rule win in six innings.

Peyton Corrigan had the lone hit of the game for Central Missouri.

Kyleigh Lay (0-2) took the loss in the circle for UCM, allowing five runs -- four earned -- on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.
