LEADING OFF
• Central Missouri Jennies softball is scheduled to open its 2022 season with four games in the Arkansas Tech Invitational Sunday, Feb. 6, and Monday, Feb. 7, in Conroe, Texas.
• UCM is slated to face Texas A&M-Kingsville in its season opener at 2 p.m. Sunday before taking on preseason No. 15 Oklahoma Christian at 4 p.m. Monday, Central Missouri is scheduled to face preseason No. 22 Texas A&M-Commerce at 9 a.m. before closing out the invitational with a showdown againts preseason No. 1 UT Tyler at 11 a.m.
• The Jennies were selected 25th in the 2022 NFCA Coaches Preseason Poll with 22 total points, and picked 2nd in the MIAA Preseason Poll.
• A total of 15 Jennies return from last year's MIAA tournament championship squad, including five All-MIAA honorees (
Paige Petefish,
Ashlyn Cook,
Abbey Fischer,
Sadie Parks, MaKenzie McAtee).
• Central Missouri welcomes five newcomers to the 2022 Jennies softball team.
• Last season, the Jennies posted a team batting average of .299 with 408 total hits (41 extra-base hits), 248 runs scored, and 215 RBIs. The UCM pitching staff had a team ERA of 2.13 and the defense posted a team fielding percentage of .977.
• Returning in right field for the Jennies is redshirt junior
Ashlyn Cook. Cook led the UCM offense last season with a .342 batting average. She also had 50 hits, 33 RBI, and eight home runs while scoring the second-most runs with 33.

Abbey Fischer was also a big contributor for the Jennies offense with a 2021 batting average of .345. The returning junior led UCM with 59 hits and a 21 stolen bases.

Paige Petefish returns after leading the UCM pitching staff in 2021, going 18-4 with three saves, 14 complete games and four shutouts. She posted a 1.64 ERA, allowing 35 earned runs on 113 hits with just 20 walks and 127 strikeouts in 149 1/3 innings pitched.
SCOUNTING THE COMPETITION
TEXAS A&M-KINGSVILLE (0-1, 0-1 LSC):
• The Javelina's finished last spring with a record of 26-15 overall and went 17-9 in the Lone Star Conference.
• Texas A&M-Kingsville is off to a 0-1 start to the 2022 season with a loss to Harding, 5-4, in the Arkansas Tech Invitational.
• The Javelinas are receiving votes (15) in the NFCA-II preseason poll and were voted sixth in the LSC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
• Central Missouri and Texas A&M-Kingsville all-time series is tied 1-1. The two teams last faced off in the 2012 season with Texas A&M-Kingsville earning a 3-2 win.
OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN (0-0, 0-0 LSC):
• The Golden Eagles finished off the 2021 season with an overall record of 38-9.
• The Jennies have met just four times against Oklahoma Christian but are a perfect 4-0 in the series.
TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE (1-1, 0-0 LSC):
• Texas A&M-Commerce are off to a 1-1 start to the 2022 season with a win over preseason No. 2 Augustana, 4-3, in 10 innings on Feb. 1 before falling in game two to the Vikings, 5-0.
• Texas A&M- Commerce was selected 22nd in the NFCA Preseason Coaches' Poll after posting a 2021 record of 33-18.
• Schaefer led the Lions with a .408 batting average last spring with 11 home runs and 32 RBI in 43 games.
• The Lions are picked fifth in preseason LSC coaches' poll.
• The Jennies and the Lions will meet for the first time in the Arkansas Tech Invitational.
TEXAS-TYLER (0-0, 0-0 LSC):
• Texas Tyler owned a 33-7 record last spring, and 27-3 conference record. They won the Lone Start Conference championship and are the preseason No. 1 team in NCAA Division II.
• The Eagles were selected first in the GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll with the league-high eight first-place votes and 386 points
• Texas-Tyler posted a 2021 team batting average of .263, a team ERA of 3.09, and a team fielding percentage of .957.
