HOUSTON – A six-run, first-inning deficit proved too much to overcome as the No. 3-ranked Central Missouri Mules baseball team fell to the St. Mary's Rattlers, 9-5, on day two of the Houston Winter Invitational Saturday, Feb. 12, inside Minute Maid Park.
The Mules (2-1) are scheduled to wrap up play in Houston with a 1:30 p.m. contest Sunday, Feb. 13, against Augustana.
Cole Moore and
Donovan Ditto each doubled, and
John Prudhom drove in two runs, leading Central Missouri at the plate.
UCM was only outhit by one in the contest, 7-6, but struggled on the mound, walking 11 St Mary's batters compared to just four free passes by the Rattler pitching staff.
Right-hander
Jacob Moskowitz (0-1) suffered the loss for the Mules after allowing six runs – three earned – on one hit with no strikeouts and four walks in a third of an inning.
Ryan McGowen went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, leading St. Mary's (2-3) in the batter's box.
Rattler reliever Josh Buske (1-0) picked up the win on the rubber after giving up just one earned run on one hit with four Ks and a walk in four innings of work.
