No. 18 Jennies Sweep Alaska Fairbanks in Season Debut at Seawolf Invitational

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Eighteenth-ranked University of Central Missouri Jennies volleyball broke out the brooms in their 2021 season opener Thursday, Sept. 2, downing the Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks, 3-0, in the Seawolf Invitational at the Alaska Airlines Center. The set scores were 25-17, 25-18 and 25-18.

The Jennies (1-0) are scheduled to continue play in the Seawolf Invitational Friday, Sept. 3, with a 5:30 p.m. CT match against Texas A&M-International.

Hannah Engelken hit a blistering .632, tallying 12 kills on 19 attempts with no errors, while Kersti Nix added a double-double with a career-high 11 kills, going along with 11 digs, and Rylie Barnum compiled a career-best 20 digs, pacing Central Missouri for the match.

Ally Offerdahl added a match-high 37 assists, and Engelken had a match-best five blocks (four block assists, one block solo).  

The Jennies out hit the Nanooks (2-3) in the contest, .339 to 135. UCM hit .342 in its opening set victory, before hitting .400 in set two and .286 in the third set. Central Missouri only committed nine errors in the contest, while posting 48 kills on 115 swings.
 
Karli Nielson paced Alaska Fairbanks for the match with nine kills, respectively.
