Jennies Face William Jewell in First Doubleheader

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Mar. 2, 2020) - Central Missouri Softball travels to Liberty this Tuesday to face William Jewell in the Jennies first doubleheader of the season. 

Opponent:
William Jewell Cardinals (7-5, 0-0 GLVC)

When:
Tuesday, Mar. 3 at 2 p.m.

Cardinal Field - Liberty, Mo. 

Leading Off:
• With two tournaments in the books, Central Missouri is off to a 7-2 start on the season.
• The Jennies .372 team batting average currently leads the MIAA.
• Freshman first baseman Sydney Wellshear leads UCM's offense with a .519 batting average. 
• This past weekend in the Washburn Invitational, Wellshear led the Jennies going 7-14 with three walks and two runs scored while Ashlyn Cook drove in the team-high of nine runs going 6-15.
• Wellshear and third baseman Jessica Sadar are the only Jennies to have recorded a hit in all nine of UCM's games. 
• Alexa Bradley leads UCM in the circle with a 2.05 ERA in 13.2 innings pitched. 
• Freshman pitcher Paige Petefish is off to a 4-0 start to the season. In 34.1 innings she's allowed 36 hits and 15 runs while striking out 24 to post a 2.85 ERA.
• Senior center fielder Laurn Deer leds the Jennies in runs scored and is 6-6 in stolen base attempts. Deer was also named last week's MIAA Hitter of the Week. 

Scouting the Competition: 
William Jewell Cardinals (7-5, 0-0 GLVC)
• William Jewell is on a four-game win streak after winning all of their games in the Drury Invitational this past weekend. 
• As a team, William Jewell posts a .289 batting average after 12 games played. 
• The Cardinals pitching staff posts an ERA of 3.94. In 78 innings, they've allowed 101 hits, 24 walks and 53 runs scored. 
• Emily Hoover leads the Cardinals offense with a .417 batting average. The senior infielder is 15-36 with five doubles and five walks. 
• Lindsey Glynn leads Jewell in hits (16), runs scored (12) and stolen bases (11-11). 
• Kenzie Jones is Jewell's ace in the circle with a 1.68 ERA. In 25 innings, she's allowed 23 hits, 13 runs and nine walks while striking out 15. 
• The Cardinals are a perfect 22-22 on stolen base attempts.  
• After posting a 24-24 record overall and 10-16 in league play last season, William Jewell was selected ninth in the 2020 GLVC Preseason Poll.

Last Time Out:
TOPEKA, Kan. (Mar. 1, 2020) - Central Missouri Softball wrapped up play in the Washburn Invitational on Sunday afternoon with a win against Sioux Falls and a loss to Missouri-St. Louis in extra innings. The Jennies finished 3-2 in the tournament and now post an overall record of 7-2.
Against the Henderson Tritons:
• With a 3-0 Jennies lead, the Tritons rallied in what would have been their final at bats. UMSL scored three runs off four hits to send the game into extra innings tied 3-3.
• UMSL outscored the Jennies one run in the top of the eighth with two in the bottom half of the inning to secure the Tritons the 5-4 victory. 
• Petefish pitched the full seven innings, allowing 10 hits and three runs scored in 31 at bats. 
Gentry Wishard entered the game in the eighth inning.
• The Jennies were outhit 8-13 but left just four runners on base compared to the Tritons seven.
• Central Missouri's 27 at bats is the lowest the Jennies have had so far this season. 
• Cook, Cooper and Fischer each led with two hits in three at bats. 
• Fowler, Cook, Sader and Cooper were each responsible for UCM's total four RBI. 
• Fischer led the Jens with two stolen bases. 

Milestones:
• Bradley ranks fifth in career appearances on the mound with 91 and seventh in career innings pitched with 422. 
• Deer is 12 hits away from reaching 200 in her career. Deer also ranks sixth in career stolen bases with 70. 

Do it with Two:
• In the 2019 season, the Jennies have drove in 89 two-out RBI's this season. Cook lead the team with 18 while Sader had 14.
• In the Jennies four games this season, 30 of UCM's 57 total RBI's have been with two outs. 
• Cook lead the Jennies at the plate with two outs. The right fielder is currently 7-15 at the plate with two outs. 

Jennies Notes: 
• Central Missouri finished the 2019 regular season with a 34-21 record and 17-9 mark in league competition, earning the No. 4 seed in the 2019 MIAA Tournament.
• UCM was picked to finish third in the 2020 MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll. The Jennies tallied 136 points in the poll.
• The Jennies 34 wins were the most since 2015 and ties for the 10th most wins in school history UCM has reached the 30-win win total.
• 2020 marks the 49th season of Jennies softball. It will also be the 14th season under the direction of Head Coach Susan Anderson.
