LINCOLN, Neb. (March 1, 2020) - Central Missouri Jennies Bowling continued their season this weekend at the Big Red Invitational. The tournament featured some of the top teams in Division I and the Jennies finished in fifth place out of eight teams.
In 13 matches during the weekend, the Jennies went 8-5. They averaged 195.1 pins, totaling 13,074 pins. They scored more than 900 points in nine of the 10 matches in pool play and hit 1,000 pins in three.
The Jennies started out winning their first two matches in Baker frames defeating Augustana College 1,071--844 and Prairie View A&M 904-874. The Jennies then lost to Arkansas State 1,041-993 and to host Nebraska 1,099-938 before winning their final Baker frame match, 954-899 over Valparaiso.
Day two saw five traditional matches where UCM again went 3-2. They started off scoring 1,019 against Youngstown State, but that wasn't enough to overcome the 1,138 pins of the Penguins. The Jennies again hit 1,000 pins scoring 1,048 in a high-scoring battle with Texas Southern, 1,048-1,016. UCM again defeated Augustana and Prairie View, 942-883 and by just two pins over Prairie View 977-975. The day finished with a 1,069-879 loss to Arkansas State.Â
In the bracket, the Jennies were the No. 5 seed. They were matched up with Valparaiso in round one where they fell in seven games, 4-3. UCM held leads of 2-0 and 3-2, but couldn't hold on. They were then matched up with Texas Southern where they swept 4-0, scoring more than 200 in three of the four games. UCM had a rematch with Valparaiso in the fifth-place game. Just like earlier in the day, the Jennies got on top 2-0 before Valpo tied things at two. This time, the Jennies were up to the task winning two close games, 235-226 and 175-162.
Jackie Garcia-Ulloa finished in the top-10 taking seventh averaging 213.2 pins and scoring better than 200 in four of five games with a high of 258.
Paytynn Kuhns also averaged better than 200 at 207.8, with a high of 253, good for 12th place.
Next week, the Jennies are in Smyrna, Tenn. for the Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt.Â
