KINGSVILLE, Texas (May 25, 2019) - The 2019 NCAA Track and Field season came to an end this weekend at the Division II National Championship meet. When the three days were all said and done, the Mules brought home two All-American awards and scored 8.5 points.
UCM sent 12 athletes to compete over 18 events. Both All-American awards came on day one in the pole vault.
Vincent Hobbie, looking to defend his 2019 Indoor National Championship, took second place jumping 17-3.5.
Jan Jansky tied for eighth place after clearing 16-3.5.
In the long jump competition, Chris Goodwin fell one place shy of an All-American award. He set a new personal-best jumping 25-2.5. That mark is third best all-time at UCM and Goodwin is just the fourth Mule to ever jump 25 feet.
Trey Miller finished 14th jumping 24-2.5 and
Jesse Miller was 19th at 22-7.25.
Jesse Miller wasn't finished though, also competing in the triple and high jumps. Miller's best jump in the triple was his third, 49-4.5, as he finished in 13th place. Miller got over two bars in the high jump, both on his final attempt. He placed 17th clearing 6-8.25.
Trey Miller finished up the two-day decathlon Friday. He scored 6702 points and finished in 10th place. Miller started off red hot on day one, running 10.93 in the 100m dash and jumping 24-8.25 in the long jump, both marks just shy of personal-bests. Miller was the leader through two events, but he fell to fourth after the shot put. Miller had the fourth-best mark in the high jump (6-4.25) and third-fastest 400m time (50.89) and was in fourth after day one. He stayed in fourth after running 15.55 in the 110m hurdles, the first event of day two, but fell as the day continued to 10th.
The Mules had three throwers in the hammer throw.
John Berry was the top finisher taking 10th with a mark of 196-7.
Nathan Liby was 13th throwing 190-8 and
Nathan Cummings 22nd at 176-8.
Cummings came back Friday to compete in the discus. He made the finals, but finished in ninth place with his best throw of 172-1. Cummings will throw the shot put tomorrow afternoon. It was the same story for Cummings on Friday in the shot put. He made the finals, but finished in ninth place throwing 58-10.
Dalton Lewallen joined Cummings in the shot put competition. He was 13th with a best of 57-11.
The Jennies'
Ashlan Burton threw in two events, the discus and the shot put. She finished in 20th place in the discus Friday with a throw of 141-7 and 13th Saturday in the shot put at 47-9.75.
Saturday saw the women's pole vault and 5,000 for the Jennies.
Cassie Jennings placed 17th in the vault jumping 12-0.75 and
Cynthia Togom ran 18:03.95 in the 5K and finished 21st.
With the women's team score tied between Lincoln and Adams State, Lincoln won the final event, the 4x400m relay to claim the team championship.
The men's team race was just as tight. Ashland trailed Angelo State by six points before the 4x400m relay which both teams were competing in. Ashland finished second in the event for eight points and Angelo was eighth for one point giving Ashland a one-point team win and the National Championship.
