Softball Goes On the Road to Sweep Bearcats

MARYVILLE, Mo. (April 23, 2019) - Central Missouri Jennies Softball again needed to rally from behind to steal game one from Northwest Missouri. They ended up winning games one and two to sweep the Bearcats to move to 31-17 and 15-7 in the MIAA.

Game One - Central Missouri 10, Northwest Missouri 9
Play-by-Play

• The Bearcats started the scoring putting up a four-spot in the second. A solo home run kicked it off before a three-run shot had them up 4-0.
• NWMSU made it 5-0 an inning later as a bases loaded wild pitch brought in a run.
• Down 5-0, the Jennies started to chip away. They scored three in the fourth on RBI hits from Makenzie McAtee and Lauryn Deer.
• Another run made it 6-3 Bearcats, but UCM kept scoring. Jessica Sader knocked in a run in the fifth and again in the sixth to tie the game at six. One batter later, Hailey Crabtree scored the go-ahead run as she scored on a ball in the dirt that got by the catcher.
• Trailing for the first time, the Bearcats responded with three of their own in the bottom of the inning. The totaled six hits and three straight RBI singles gave them a 9-7 lead heading into the seventh.
• The first four Jennies all reached base in the seventh. Alexis Koop started it off and Kaitlyn Markin doubled putting two in scoring position for McAtee who singled them both home and tie the game.
• A wild-play which saw two Bearcat errors scored McAtee from third. Taylor Nickel attempted to bunt McAtee to second, but reached on a throwing error from the third baseman. With McAtee heading for third, the ensuing throw from the right-fielder was also wild and McAtee scored the game-winning run.
Alexa Bradley who entered in the sixth, worked around a baserunner for the win.

Jennies Stat Leaders
Hailey Crabtree collected three hits and scored two runs.
Makenzie McAtee was 3-4 with three runs scored and four runs batted in.
Lauryn Deer and Alexis Koop each had two hits
Jessica Sader drove in two runs on two hits.
Alexa Bradley got the win throwing the final two innings. She allowed a run on four hits with a strikeout.

For the Bearcats
• Jaedra Moses scored twice with three hits.
• Jaclyn Weydert reached base three times with two hits and a walk and drove in two.
• Grace Ruehle and Sydne Brashear each went 2-4.
• Regan Thompson started and went five innings giving up four runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.

Game Two - Central Missouri 10, Northwest Missouri 4
Play-by-Play

• Game two was Central Missouri's turn to score first. They picked up a run in each of the first two innings with a solo home run from Ashlyn Cook and a Brie Murray RBI ground out.
• Northwest Missouri tied the game in the home half of the second with a two-out, two-RBI double.
• That's the way the game stayed until the fifth. The Jennies reclaimed the lead on Hailey Crabtree's RBI single.
Taylor Dames led off the sixth with a double and Alexis Koop sent one over the fence in center for a two-run home run, giving UCM a 5-2 lead.
• The Jennies weren't done though. They scored seven in the inning. McAtee followed Koop with a walk and then Kaitlyn Markin took one deep to left for a two-run home run of her own.
• With the bases loaded, Jessica Sader drove in two with a single and after batting around, Dames' sacrifice fly made it an even 10 for UCM.
• Northwest got a run in both the sixth and seventh, but the Jennies completed the sweep with a 10-4 win.

Jennies Stat Leaders
Lauryn Deer went 2-4 with two runs and a stolen base.
Hailey Crabtree was 2-4 with a run and an RBI.
Kaitlyn Markin drove in two with a home run and knocked two hits.
Alexa Bradley pitched all seven innings giving up four runs on 10 hits with a walk.

For the Bearcats
• Karli Allen was had three hits in four at bats.
• Jaedra Moses had a hit and two RBI.
• Rachel Smith threw the first five innings giving up five runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.

News and Notes
• The Jennies scored 10 runs in both games.
• UCM handed the Bearcats their first loss at home this season.
• All nine Jennies had a hit or an RBI in game two.
• Coach Susan Anderson picked up win number 400 at UCM in game one.
Alexa Bradley reached 400 career innings pitched.
• Central Missouri improves to 9-5 in one-run games.
