Walk Off Leads to Sweep of Tigers

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (April 19, 2019) - Twice Central Missouri Jennies Softball needed to rally from down multiple runs, but they were up to the task each time, sweeping Fort Hays State at home 4-3 and 8-5. They didn't even need extra innings do it as they improve to 28-16, 12-6 in the MIAA.

Game One - Central Missouri 4, Fort Hays State 3
Play-by-Play

• Hit were at a premium in game one. Fort Hays scored twice in the second and it looked like that might hold up over seven innings. A two-RBI plated the two Tiger runs
•.The Jennies didn't get their first hit until the fourth inning. They left two on in the frame after Alexis Koop's 11-pitch at bat ended with a line drive, but right back to the pitcher for the final out.
• UCM got on the board with a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Hailey Crabtree scored Lauryn Deer who singled to lead off the inning.
• The Tigers again made it a two run game in the seventh, scoring on a two-out RBI single through the right side of the infield.
• Down two, the Jennies sent six to the plate and never recorded an out. On a 1-2 pitch, Taylor Dames was hit to lead off the inning. Alexis Koop nearly tied the game, but her long fly ball was held up by the wind and hit off the fence for a long single.
• Kaitlyn Markin walked to load the bases before Makenzie McAtee's single to left brought in the first run.
• Another hit by pitch, this time with the bases loaded, tied the game at two. 
• The Jennies won it in walk-off fashion when Lauryn Deer's slow roller back to the pitcher scored Markin with the winning run.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Deer was 1-4 with an RBI, run scored and stolen base.
• Kaitlyn Markin walked twice and scored.
• Alexa Bradley threw the first six innings giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits.
• Gentry Wishard earned the win allowing a hit and no runs in the seventh.

For the Tigers
• Elise Capra was 1-2 with two RBI.
• Hailey Chapman struck out six in six innings of work. She allowed all four runs on four hits.

Game Two - Central Missouri 8, For Hays State 5
Play-by-Play

• After getting down 2-0 after two innings in game one, the Jennies trailed 3-0 after the top of the first in game two. With two outs, the Tigers got a two-RBI single and a another RBI hit to plate their three runs.
• That lead didn't even last an inning as the Jennies responded with a three-spot of their own in the home half of the first. The first four batters all reached base. Hailey Crabtree drove in two with a double and she came in to score on a double-steal attempt that results in Jessica Sader being thrown out on the play.
• In the second, FHSU took the lead right back. An infield single clanked off a diving Jessica Sader's glove at third, and allowed the go-ahead run to scored from second.
• UCM tied it in the fourth as Taylor Dames scored from first base on a ground out. After she singled, Alexis Koop hit a slow roller towards third and Dames rounded second and headed for third. The throw back from the first baseman was wild and Dames came in with the tying-run.
• The Jennies added two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to put the game away. Crabtree tripled, giving UCM their first lead. She scored on Sader's RBI single.
• In the fifth, Ashlyn Cook drove in two more with a single and the Jennies led 8-4.
• The Tigers got a run in the seventh on a sac-fly but no more as UCM claimed a sweep, 8-5.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Hailey Crabtree was 2-4 with a double, triple and three RBI.
• Ashlyn Cook finished with two hits and three runs batted in. She also stole two bases.
• Taylor Dames went 2-4 with a run scored.
• Lauryn Deer picked up two hits and two runs.
• After coming in with two outs in the first, Gentry Wishard threw 6.1 innings, allowing just two runs (one earned) on five hits.

For the Tigers
• Grace Philop was 2-4 with a run and an RBI.
• Bailey Boxberger drove in two with a pair of hits.
• Michaelanne Nelson gave up eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits with four walks.

News and Notes
• The game one win was their second of the season when trailing after six innings.
• Their four hits in game one was the fewest in a win this season. 
• Alexa Bradley moved into ninth place at UCM in innings pitched and now has thrown 383.2.
• Ashlyn Cook had three hits and three stolen bases.
• With runners on base, the Jennies were 11-23.
• The Jennies have now won seven straight against Fort Hays State.

• The Jennies will take on Nebraska-Kearney Saturday, April 20 for Cancer Awareness Day with game one starting at 12 p.m.
