PITTSBURG, Kan. (April 13, 2019) - The Mules and Jennies spent their Saturday at the 11th Annual David Suenram Gorilla Classic at Pittsburg State.
Throws
In the hammer throw,
Baylie Bellin led the Jennies placing seventh with a toss of 158-00.
Rachel Schultz finished eighth (156-01) and
Ashlan Burton ninth with her throw of 151-11.
For the Mules,
Nathan Liby led with a big personal best and an automatic qualifying mark of 218-08 for first place.
John Berry was next up placing fourth, with a provisional qualifying mark of 186-01. In the shot put,
Dalton Lewallen was the top finisher with his toss of 59-03.
For the Jennies,
Alisha Straws led in the discus throw. Straws finished 10th with the toss of 135-04.
In the javelin throw,
Hannah Becker was the top finisher with a throw 101-10, to place 11th. For the Mules,
Cain Fowles was the top-finisher placing ninth with his toss of 162-07.
Kyle Schilling was next up for the Mules, placing 12th with 132-06.
Jumps
In the high jump,
Cade Conley was the Mules top-finisher placing 12th after clearing 6-02.25.
Austin Staib was the Mules top-finisher placing 17th in the long jump, with a leap of 20-11.25. In the triple jump,
Jesse Miller took the crown with a leap of 48-04.00.
Jan Jansky had a strong day in the pole vault. Jansky won the event after recording a new personal best of 17-05.00, which is an NCAA automatic qualifying mark.
Distance
Katie Bean was the Jens top finisher in the 1500m run. Bean finished sixth with a time of 5:04.51. Sophomore
Derek Nugent was the Mules top-finisher in the 1500m run, running a time of 4:15.59, for 15th.
Nick Victor was the sold participant in the 5000m run. Victor finished the race at 15:44.10.
Sprints/ Hurdles/ Relays
The quartet of
Jyl Stewart,
Grace Wormek,
Destiney Nash, and
Kacey Kohlhof placed third in the 4x100m relay with a time of 48.63. For the Mules, the relay of
Zion Perry,
Andre Williams,
Blake Johnson, and
Akeemo Minott finished with a time of 42.31 to place third overall.
In the 100m Hurdles,
Brett Shaffer had a strong day placing fourth with a new personal best time of 15.21.
Chris Donald was right behind him finished fifth with a time of 15.40.
Emily Thole led the Jens in the 400m dash. Thole ran a time of 58.84 to place second overall.
Mariah Elmore also competed in the race for the Jens and finished eighth with a time of 1:00.26. Three Mules finished in the top seven in the event in
Jacob Weber,
Daylen Foster, and
Chris Donald. Weber finished third running a time of 49.85, Foster crossed the line at 50.91 for fifth place and a new personal best, and Donald finished seventh at 51.56.
In the 100m dash,
Blake Johnson was the top finisher for the Mules with a time of 11.01 in ninth,
Kyzer Ramey was right behind him in 10th with the time of 11.03.
Alexis Sroor competed in the 800m run for the Jens and finished eighth with the time of 2:31.84. For the Mules, Alex Phillips was the top finisher with a time of 2:04.59, to place 18th, respectively.
Brett Shaffer was the top finisher in the 400m hurdles. Shaffer crossed the line at 55.67, to place third.
Matt Scaletty was next up placing fifth with a time of 57.27.
In the 200m dash,
Destiney Nash was the Jennies top finisher placing third with a new personal best of 25.09.
Kacey Kohlhof (26.22) and
Grace Wormek (26.35) finished 10th and 11th, respectively. For the Mules,
Akeemo Minott was the top finisher placing third with a new personal best time of 21.57, and
Zion Perry finished sixth for the Mules with a personal best of 21.88.
The Jens 4x400m relay team of
Alexandria Foote',
Emily Thole,
Mariah Elmore, and
Destiney Nash finished second with a time of 4:03.02. The Mules finished first running the time of 3:21.18 with
Blake Johnson,
Daylen Foster,
Derek Nugent, and
Jacob Weber.

The team will have a busy week next week at Kansas Relays April 18-20, and the Mule Relays at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field April 19 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
