EMPORIA, Kan. (March 30, 2019) - Central Missouri track and field got their week started at the Washington University Distance Carnival last night. This afternoon, UCM took the rest of the team to Emporia, Kan. for the ESU Relays. The conditions were less than ideal, with chilly temperatures and a strong wind, but the rain subsided making way for the athletes to compete for their first time this spring.
Throws
• Six UCM provisional qualifying marks came from the throws.
Nathan Cummings hit three, winning the discus throwing 167-1, the shot put throwing 57-1 and taking second in the hammer throw at 188-1.
• Cummings was second in the hammer to his teammate Nate Liby. Liby threw the hammer 209-0 to win the event.
John Berry was third at 177-3 and
Dalton Lewallen fifth at 163-2.
• Lewallen set a new outdoor PR in the shot put and hit an NCAA provo mark by throwing 55-10.25. Berry was sixth throwing 50-6.75.Â
• For the Jennies,
Ashlan Burton won the shot put and had a pair of second-place finishes in the discus and hammer throw. Burton won the shot put throwing 46-0.75 which is an NCAA provisional qualifier. She threw 144-9 in the discus and 151-4 in the hammer throw.
Alisha Straws set a PR in the discus taking fourth place and throwing 134-2. She also was fourth in the shot put with an outdoor personal-best throw of 42-0.75.
• Finishing behind Burton in the hammer throw was
Baylie Bellin. She also set a PR with a mark of 150-1.
Rachel Schultz was seventh throwing 141-6 in her first outdoor meet for UCM.Â
• In the javelin,
Cain Fowles competed in his first meet. He finished third throwing 165-6. Callaway Scholes only got off one legal throw but made it count. He had a mark of 151-9 and finished fifth.

Hannah Becker competed in the javelin for the Jennies. She too was fifth with a throw of 118-7.
Jumps
• There were a number of first place finishes in the jumps. In the pole vault,
Cassie Jennings and Maddie Wulfekotter each took first place clearing 11-5.75. That's an outdoor PR at UCM for Jennings and puts her ninth all-time.
Callie Ruffener was fifth jumping 10-11.75.
• Also in first for the Jennies was
Audrey Fisher in the triple jump. She had a mark of 39-1.75.
• Fisher wasn't the only UCM triple jump winner.
Jeremi Barnes took first for the Mules jumping 46-10.25.
Cale Cunconan was second at 41-11.5. That was each of their first times competing in the triple jump for UCM.
• The Mules also took first and second in the long jump.
Jesse Miller won the event with a mark of 23-6 while
Brent Alumbaugh was second at 22-00.25.
• In the high jump,
Cade Conley placed fifth clearing 6-0.75.
Sprints/Hurdles/Relays
• The ESU Relays lived up to their name with a number of different relay races. In addition to the NCAA championship events, the 4x100m and 4x400m, the meet featured a 4x200m, 4x800m and sprint medley relay. Most of the UCM sprinters competed in the relay races as opposed to open events. The Mules won both the 4x100m and 4x200m relays. Each team consisted of
Zion Perry,
Andre Williams,
Blake Johnson and
Akeemo Minott. The 4x1 team ran the lap in 42.51 while the 4x2 finished in 1:32.Â
• That wasn't the only Mules relay win. The team of
Jacob Weber,
Matt Scaletty,
Trey Miller and
Chris Donald ran 3:23.27 to win the 4x400m relay as well.Â
• The Mules were also third in the sprint medley running 3:37.15. That team was made up of Perry, Williams,
Daylen Foster and
Derek Nugent.
• For the Jennies, they won the 4x800 relay. The four-some of
Hannah Rodina,
Katie Bean,
Mariah Elmore and Karyann Carroll ran 10:17.52. The Jens then took second in the sprint medley.
Grace Wormek,
Taylor Larson, Alex Foote and
Emily Thole ran 4:18.59.
Jyl Stewart, Wormek,
Destiney Nash and
Kacey Kohlhof finished fourth in the 4x100m relay running 49.00.
• In the final relay of the day, the 4x400m, the Jennies finished in fourth place running 4:08.01. That team was comprised of Foote, Thole, Nash and Wormek.

Elliott Anderson was UCM's only competitor in the 100m dash. He ran 11.33 with a wind of 5.4 meters/second to set a new personal best.

Trey Miller took a second place finish in the 200m dash running 22.04 for the Mules. For the Jennies,
Kyra Webster ran 27.68 and
Lauren Nelson 28.38 to finish eighth and 10th. For Nelson, it's now back-to-back week's she's run that time in this event. Webster also ran the 100m hurdles, finishing 17th in 17.55.Â

Brett Shaffer ran the high-hurdles on the men's side. He took third place in 15.44.Â
• Running in her first career outdoor meet,
Katie Bean took a ninth place finish in the 400m dash runing 1:03.76. She was the only UCM competitor in the event.
Distance
• While most of the UCM distance crew competed in St. Louis last night, a couple ran today in Emporia.
Mariah Elmore was sixth in the 1500m running 5:01.55.

Alexis Sroor took seventh in the 800m, crossing the line in 2:40.18.
Corey Timberlake ran a personal-best in the event for the Mules, placing 10th after running 2:06.87.Â
