Jennies Set School Record With 5 Home Runs In Win

EMPORIA, Kan. (March 22, 2019) - It was a record breaking day for the Central Missouri Jennies Softball team who took two games Friday in Emporia, Kan. The Jennies proved they could win games in multiple ways, crushing five home runs in an 8-4 win over St. Cloud in game one, before winning a pitcher's dual, 2-1, over Sioux Falls in game two.

Game One - Central Missouri 8, St. Cloud State 4
Play-by-Play

• Central Missouri jumped on the Huskies scoring two in the first inning. A one-out single from Ashlyn Cook followed by an opposite field home run from Hailey Crabtree gave the Jennies an early 2-0 lead and their first home run.
• UCM added to their lead with runs in the third and fourth innings. Crabtree again was the catalyst, singling and reaching third as the ball was misplayed in the outfield. Jessica Sader drove her in with a single up the middle.
• The fourth inning saw a pair of UCM long balls. Kaitlyn Markin led off the inning going deep to left. With two outs, Cook made it a 5-0 game with a home run of her own to left center, UCM's third of the day.
• Things started to get dicey as the Huskies scored two unearned runs in both the fourth and sixth innings. Two-out RBI hits brought SCSU within one, 5-4.
• The Jennies squashed any hopes of a comeback though, scoring three in the seventh. With one out, Sader and Makenzie McAtee hit back-to-back jacks, the Jennies fourth and record-setting fifth home runs of the game.
• Markin then picked up another RBI with a two-out RBI single.
Gentry Wishard entered and pitched a perfect seventh for an 8-4 win.

Jennies Stat Leaders
Alexa Bradley got the win in the circle pitching the first six innings. She gave up four runs, all unearned on eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

Ashlyn Cook was 2-4 with two runs scored and a home run.
Kaitlyn Markin drove in two runs with a home run and collected two hits.
Hailey Crabtree and Jessica Sader were each 2-4 with a home run and two RBI. Crabtree also scored twice.

• Jasmin Estrada was 1-3 with a run scored.

Game Two - Central Missouri 2, Sioux Falls 1
Play-by-Play

• Quite the opposite story in game two. The Jennies rode the left arm of Gentry Wishard to a 2-1 win.
• With one out in the first, Ashlyn Cook singled and stole second. Two batters later, Jessica Sader put UCM ahead 1-0 with a two-out RBI single through the left side.
• Wishard was in command all afternoon. Her only blemish came in the fifth when F. Mickelson led off the inning with a home run.
• The Jennies got her the lead right back though in the bottom of the inning. It was another two-out RBI as Hailey Crabtree went to the opposite field for a single to score Lauryn Deer who had singled and stole second.
• The Cougars left runners on base in the sixth and seventh, but Wishard worked out of those jams for a complete game win.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Six different Jennies collected the team's six hits.
Lauryn Deer and Ashlyn Cook were 1-3 with a single, stolen base and run scored.
Hailey Crabtree and Jessica Sader were each 1-3 with a single and an RBI.
Kaitlyn Markin and Brenlyn McCoy were both 1-2.
• The story though belonged to Wishard. She threw 117 pitches in seven innings allowing one run on two hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

For the Cougars
• The Cougars got a complete game from Courtney Mathews who struck out seven while allowing two runs on six hits and a walk.
• Francesca Mickelson was the only source of scoring with a home run in the fifth.
• Emily Hove had the Cougars only other hit.

• The Jennies have scored in the first inning of five straight games.
• Five different Jennies all collected two hits against St. Cloud State.
