WARRENSBURG, Mo. (March 21, 2019) - Central Missouri Mules Baseball (17-8, 9-4 MIAA) was held scoreless for the first three innings, but scored in four of their final five trips to the plate to take game one, 9-2 from Washburn.
Play-by-Play
• It didn't start out well for the Mules as Washburn pitcher Josh Ramirez was perfect through three. The Ichabods utilized a double-steal in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead.
• Washburn tried to do some more running on the Mules, but a "strike-him-out, throw-him out" double play ended the fourth.
• Central Missouri carried that defensive momentum to the plate in the bottom of the inning. They tied the game on back-to-back hits from
Alex Madera and
Erik Webb. Webb got a nice bounce from the turf to lift the ball just over the third baseman's head, and Madera scored all the way from first.
• The Mules broke it open with a three-run sixth, and all in the span of just seven pitches. With one out,
Mason Janvrin singled and stole second. He scored the go-ahead run on Madera's single, then one pitch later, Webb left the yard with a long home run to left field, putting the Mules on top 4-1.
• They added two more in the seventh and three in the eighth.
Donovan Ditto launched a solo home run before Janvrin beat out a double-play, allowing the Mules' sixth run to score.
• An unearned run scored for Washburn in the eighth, but that was no cause for concern. The first five Mules all reached base in the bottom of the inning.
Michael Sinks knocked a two-run, bases-loaded single to right-center and
Zak Whalin made it 9-2 with a sacrifice fly.
