Jennies Softball Splits in Slugger Dome

PEORIA, Ill. (Feb. 28, 2019) - Central Missouri Jennies Softball went 1-1 on the first day of the Illinois-Springfield Slugger Dome Tournament. After falling 4-3 in game one, the Jennies rebounded with a 13-9 win over Illinois-Springfield.

Play-by-Play

• This was a wild game with runs scored in five of seven innings.
Taylor Nickel got it all started with a two-run double in the first.
• That lead didn't last though as the Prairie Stars scored four in the bottom half of the inning. 
• UIS pushed the lead to 6-2 with two runs scoring on an error in the third.
• The Jennies broke through for seven runs in the fourth. Alexis Koop, Ashlyn Cook and Hailey Crabtree all had RBI hits. Crabtree's two-RBI triple gave the Jens an 8-6 lead.
• An RBI groundout from Makenzie McAtee made it a three-run lead, 9-6.
• The Prairie Stars fought back again, tying the game with three runs in the fifth. They led off the inning with back-to-back home runs and an RBI double tied the game at nine.
• UCM responded right away getting an RBI single from McAtee in the top of the sixth. The Jens tacked on three more unearned runs in the inning and led by four, 13-9.
Jordan Johnson threw the final two innings allowing just one hit and no runs as the Jennies came out with a 13-9 win.

Jennies Stat Leaders
Alexis Koop finished 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Hailey Crabtree scored three times and was 2-5 with a triple and two RBI.
Makenzie McAtee and Taylor Nickel each drove in a pair of runs.
Jessica Sader picked up two hits and scored two runs.
Jordan Johnson earned the win throwing the final three innings. She gave up a run on four hits with three strikeouts.

For the Prairie Stars
• Addison Bryant finished 3-4 with a triple, run scored and an RBI. She also started and allowed nine runs (seven earned) in 3.1 innings on eight hits.
• Bree Derhake and Carolyn Franke each hit solo home runs. Franke scored three times and Derhake had two hits.
• Jaycee Craver pitched the final two innings. She was the hard-luck loser allowing four unearned runs on three hits with two strikeouts.

Play-by-Play

• The Jennies had a chance to score in the top of the first after Lauryn Deer led off the game with a double. She was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a groundball.
• Quincy took advantage and scored three times in the second. They led off with back-to-back home runs and scored a third run on a fielder's choice.
• UCM got to within one, 3-2, in the fifth. A bases loaded walk scored Taylor Dames and Taylor Nickel's sacrifice fly drove home Deer with the second run.
• A two-out double and RBI single from Quincy in the bottom of the inning proved to be the difference as they gained a 4-2 lead.
• UCM again cut the lead to one, 4-3, when Dames' two-out single drove in Kaitlyn Markin.
• The Jens got the tying run on base with one out in the seventh, but a pop up and a ground out ended the game.

Jennies Stat Leaders
Lauryn Deer went 2-3 with a run and a stolen base.
Kaitlyn Markin and Taylor Dames were each 2-4 with a run scored.
• Tayor Nickel also picked up two hits and drove in a run.
Gentry Wishard got the start and allowed two runs in 1+ innings of work.
Jordan Johnson threw the final five frames, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits with a strikeout and two walks.

For the Hawks
• Morgan Heckman was 2-3 with two runs and a home run.
• Remi Ferguson also went deep, going 2-3 with a run and an RBI.
• Courtney Kernich and Dana Walsh each had a hit.
• Alex DeVaney got the win throwing 5.2 innings allowing three runs on eight hits. She struck out three and walked two.
• Mac Kenzie Collier earned the save tossing the final 1.1 innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Alexa Bradley surpassed 300 career innings in the circle.
Taylor Dames picked up career hit number 50.
Jordan Johnson's win in game two was her first in more than a calendar year, last earning a win Feb. 4, 2018
