Jennies Basketball Back in Action Tomorrow Night

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Nov. 12, 2019) - Central Missouri Jennies Basketball is back on the road this week. They'll play their third game of the season in the great state of Indiana.

Tip Off
• Central Missouri started their season last weekend playing in the Central Region Challenge in Aberdeen, SD. It was a slow start for UCM, falling 58-56 to No. 18 Minnesota State-Moorhead as their comeback bid fell just short. The Jens got back in the win column with a 62-50 win against host Northern State.
• UCM plays just one game this week, staying on the road to take on Southern Indiana. 
• The Jennies were ranked 11th in the first WBCA top-25 coaches poll. They also were 14th in the D2CCA media poll.

Story Lines
• UCM finished 2018-19 at 25-7 and were 2nd in the MIAA regular season & Tournament.
• Central Missouri has won an NCAA Tournament game in three straight seasons.
• UCM has two 1,000 point scorers on the team in seniors Morgan Fleming and Megan Skaggs. 
• The Jennies defeated the Screaming Eagles in Warrensburg last season, 74-71.
• Following this game, the Jennies will be home for the first time Monday, Nov. 18 vs. Union.

Last Time Out

• The Jennies opened the season 1-1 playing at Northern State and against Minnesota State-Moorhead. The Jennies made a furious comeback against the Dragons, overcoming a 14-point deficit to take a fourth quarter lead, but couldn't hang on, falling in the season opener, 58-56. UCM rebounded with a 62-50 win against Northern State. Nija Collier scored 20 against Minnesota Moorhead and Morgan Fleming and Megan Skaggs have scored in double figures in each game. 

Previously vs. Southern Indiana
• The two teams met in Warrensburg last year and the Jennies need to hold on as the Screaming Eagles stormed back in the fourth quarter. The Jennies led by 15 heading into the fourth and survived for a 74-71 win. Five Jennies scored in double-figures led by Paige Redmond's 18. Megan Skaggs had 16 and Morgan Fleming 14 and seven rebounds.

Jennies in the Rankings
• The Jennies have been ranked by the WBCA in 41 of the last 43 polls dating back to the 2016-17 season. They open the season ranked 11th in the preseason and received one first-place vote. The next poll will be released after this week of games.
• in the D2SIDA Poll, Central Missouri ranks 14th.
• The Jens were picked second in the MIAA preseason coaches poll, following their 15-4 conference season in 2018-19

Individual Milestones
• Kim Crown is 25 points away from 200.
• Morgan Fleming is 11 three-pointers away from 100 and 16 rebounds shy of 400.

1,000 Point Club
• Both Morgan Fleming and Megan Skaggs started the 2019-20 year as members of the 1,000 point club. Fleming has 1,081 while Skaggs is at 1,211. Skaggs is currently 19th all-time and 53 points away from 18th. Fleming is 23rd and needs 56 points to get to 22nd. Her sister, Kara Fleming, is 21st with 1,160 points. 

10 Below
• For the last three seasons the Jennies have made a habit of holding teams to fewer than 10 points in at least one quarter. It's happened in 46 games dating back to the 2016-17 season and in those games, UCM is 42-4. The Jens were 15-1 when doing so in 2016-17 and 18-1 in the run to the national championship including four of the six NCAA postseason games. The Jens defense cranked it up again last weekend, holding to Northern State to just 8 first-quarter points. 

Who's Hot?
• Morgan Fleming and Megan Skaggs were the only Jennies to hit double-figures in each game last weekend. Fleming leads the team scoring 14 points per game while Skaggs is at 11.5.
• Nija Collier has been hot from three hitting 5-8 to start the year. She scored 20 in the season opener and is averaging 8.7 rebounds per game.
• Kim Crown gave the Jennies great minutes off the bench at Northern State scoring seven points and grabbing six rebounds.
• Freshman Sydnee Schovanec scored her first career points, getting six at Northern State. 

Free Points
• The Jennies did a great job all weekend at the foul line shooting 81.1%, hitting on 30-of-37 attempts. UCM went 11-13 in the season opener and 19-24 against Northern State.
• Leading the free throw charge is Morgan Fleming who is 10-10 thus far. 

New Kids on the Block
• Central Missouri will see plenty of new faces this year as they have brought in six new players, four transfers and two high school freshmen.
• Two of the transfers were already teammates and National Champions: Nija Collier and Camryn Swanson. The duo helped Kansas City Kansas Community College to an NJCAA Division II National title last year. Collier was also an All-American.
• The other two transfers come from the ranks of Division I. Ellisha Bradley is a senior who spent last year at Bradley while Ryann Stearns spent her freshman year at Texas San-Antonio. 
• UCM also brought in two freshmen - Madisyn Pense and Sydnee Schovanec. Schovanec was a 1,000 point scorer at Bixby HS in Oklahoma and Pense was three-times All-State at Farmington HS in Arkansas. 

Scouting the Opposition
• Southern Indiana had a disappointing end to their season last year. They finished 20-9, 13-5 in the GLVC, but were bounced in round one of the GLVC tournament and missed out on the NCAA postseason.
• The Eagles are looking for their fourth straight 20-win season.
• USI lost six players from the 2018-19 team, graduating four seniors. They brought in four freshman and two transfers to help fill the void.
• Returning  to lead the team this season are guards Ashley Johnson and Emma DeHart. Those two combined for 15 points when USI came to Warrensburg last season.
• DeHart scored 9.6 points per game last season shooting 43.7% from the field. She was also the top three-point specialist on the team, hitting 42% and making 48 from behind the line.
• Johnson started 24 games for the Eagles, scoring 9.1 points per game. She led the team passing out 96 assists.
• In the GLVC preseason poll, the Screaming Eagles were picked to finish fourth.
