WARRENSBURG, Mo. (March 8, 2018) - Central Missouri Jennies Softball had a solid outing in their home opener as they swept in-state foe Rockhurst, 2-1 and 11-10, Thursday afternoon at the South Recreation Complex. With the wins the Jennies improve to 8-12 on the season.
Game One: Central Missouri 2, Rockhurst 1
Play-by-Play
• Both of the Jennies runs came in the bottom of the first inning. From there it was a defensive battle the rest of the way. The Jens proved to be the better with no errors, while Rockhurst (6-11) had one.
• Lauryn Deer led off the bottom of the inning with a single to third. She then stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
• After Makayla Schoonover was walked, Payton Summers hit a double to right center to score Schoonover and Deer.

Katie Giacone showed well in the circle for the Jens as she allowed just three hits in three innings pitched.
• The Hawks put up all six of their hits from the third inning to the sixth inning, but did not score until the sixth. They left seven runners on base for the game.
• Halle Koeliker had lone run for Rockhurst in top of the sixth as she homered to center field.

Alexa Bradley entered the game in the top of sixth inning with two outs and retired the next batter. She followed that up with a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh to seal game one.
Jennies Stat Leaders
• Summers was 1-3 and had both RBI's in game one.

Hailey Crabtree went 2-3, but was left on base twice, as was Summers.
• Deer scored a run and had one hit in three at bats.

Courtni Smith finished 1-3 and had a stolen base.
• Giacone got the win to improve to 2-3 on the year. She allowed three hits and had one strikeout.
• Bradley picked up the save after 1.1 innings pitched and had four ground outs.
For the Hawks
• Lauren Marks collected two hits in four at bats.
• Koeliker went 1-2 with a home run, a run scored and an RBI.
• Madison Wagner, Emily Truit and Megan Frietag all went 1-3 in game one.
• Shannon Greene suffered the loss in the circle to go to 6-7 after game one.
Game Two: Central Missouri 11, Rockhurst 10
Play-by-Play
• Game two was slugfest as the two teams combined 21 runs on 29 total hits. The game was not always the pretty as the Jens had two errors, while the Hawks finished with three.
• Rockhurst got the game started with three runs in the first on three hits. After a pair of walks and a single, back-to-back doubles to right field from Hannah Stam and Halle Koeliker gave the Hawks the 3-0 lead.

Lauryn Deer and
Payton Summers once again got the Jens going to start the game. Deer led off with a single and immediately stole second on the next batter. Summers scored her with a two-out RBI single to right field.

Courtni Smith then got an RBI bunt single and a throwing error by the Hawks advanced her to second and scored Summers for the unearned run to make it 3-2 Hawks after one inning.
• The Jens allowed just a hit in the top of the second and scored five unanswered runs to lead 7-3 after two.
• After a Kaitlin Markin walk,
Alexis Koop reach first on a throwing error and both runners advanced. Haley Crabtree got to first on a fielder's choice and Markin scored to tie the game 3-3.
• A hit by pitch on
Brie Murray loaded the bases up for
Emily King. With a 1-2 count, King delivered a hard hit that left the field with no doubts for the grand slam home run to give UCM a four-run lead.
• UCM added one run in in the bottom of third as Markin led off with a single to left field. She got to second on a passed ball and was brought home on an RBI single from Deer.
• The Hawks did not let the game get away from them and began chipping away at the Jens lead. They put up two runs in the top of the fourth and worked a 1-2-3 inning to get within three, 8-5.
• An RBI double to right center from Megan Frietag brought home Paige Renner and Rockhurst cut its deficit to two runs, 8-6. The Hawks worked another 1-2-3 inning to keep the momentum.
• Four runs in the sixth inning gave the Hawks the lead once again, 10-6. Halle Koeliker brought in the first runner with a triple to right field. She was then scored immediately as Kate Wood hit a single to right field and tied the game 8-8.
• After a walk against Renner, Danielle Cross singled to right field to bring Wood home, while Renner advanced to third. Following a pitching change, Renner made it home on a wild pitch by
Katie Giacone. The Hawks led 10-8 going into the bottom of the sixth.
• Koop got on base to start the bottom of the sixth thanks to fielding error by Rockhurst. Deer gave UCM life with a single to left field. She and Koop both advanced on back-to-back wild pitches, which allowed Koop to score.

Makayla Schoonover hit a single up the middle to score Deer and the Jens tied the game 10-10. King made contact for a hard base hit through the left side to bring Schoonover home and give UCM the final lead, 11-10.
Jennies Stat Leaders
• King led the way in game two with five RBI, while collecting two hits in four at bats.
• Deer also proved to be clutch with a 3-4 performance, with two runs scored and an RBI.
• Summer was a perfect 3-3 in game two with an RBI.
• Markin finished 1-2 with two runs scored.
• Smith went 1-4 with an RBI.

Sarah Brown picked up the win in the circle to improve to 3-5 on the season.
For the Hawks
• Wagner had a solid outing going 4-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
• Stam finished 3-4 in game two with two RBI.
• Koeliker was also 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
• Wood had two hits in two at bats with a run scored and an RBI.
• Shannon Greene suffered her second straight loss and fell to 6-8. She gave up six total runs on the day, with four of them being earned.
News and Notes
• The Jennies 11 runs in game two are the second most runs they have scored in a win this season. They were one shy of matching their season-high of 12. Their 10 RBI's in game two match their season-high.
• King's grand slam is the first of her career. She now has 14 career home runs. Her five RBI's in game two also puts her career total at 80.
• Bradley's game one save puts her career total at six, which now fourth all-time in Jennies Softball History.
• Schoonover's two hits on the day puts her career total at 98. She is just two shy of reaching 100.
• The Jennies are now 8-1 against Rockhurst all-time and 6-1 under
Susan Anderson.
Up Next
• The Jennies are back in action Friday afternoon (tomorrow) for a doubleheader at Southwest Baptist. Game one against the Bearcats is set for a 12 p.m. opening pitch.
