Jennies Start Homestand With a Sweep Over Pitt State

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (March 28, 2018) - Jennies Softball had a solid day hitting the ball as they totaled 20 hits, along with four combined home runs and swept the Pittsburg State Gorillas, 6-2 and 10-1, at Jennies Field. With the wins, Central Missouri is now 19-15 overall and 8-2 in MIAA play.

Game One: Central Missouri 6, Pittsburg State 2
Play-by-Play
• The Jennies put up the game's first runs with three in the third inning and never looked back. Kaitlyn Markin knocked a RBI double to right center to score Allie Dishinger to start the scoring.
• Markin was brought home on a Taylor Dames single. Dames advanced to second on the play and got to third on a wild pitch. Courtni Smith made it a 3-0 UCM lead with a RBI single to center field.
• Two more runs in the bottom of the fourth gave the Jens a 5-0 lead. Crabtree was hit by pitch to lead off the bottom of the inning. Alexis Koop scored her with a RBI single to right center.
• A wild pitch got Koop to third base. Dishinger plated her home on base hit to right field. The Gorillas (13-24, 3-5 MIAA) scored their first run in the top of the fifth thanks to a Lawren McKinney RBI single.
• Pitt State made things interesting in the sixth. Kristan VanHoosen hit a solo home run to right center to cut UCM's lead to three, 5-2, but the Gorillas never scored again.
• Koop added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on the very first pitch with a solo home run to center field. Alexa Bradley closed out the game with a 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh inning.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Koop notched two extra base hits in three at bats. She scored a pair of runs to go along with two RBI.
• Dames and Smith each had a hit and a run scored, while Dames also had a RBI.
• Both Dishinger and Markin were 1-2 in the game with a RBI and a run scored. Both drew a walk in the game as well.
• Deer finished with two hits in four at bats.
• Bradley pitched a complete game to earn the win and improve to 4-3. She struck out three batters and allowed just five hits and two runs (one earned).

For the Gorillas
• VanHoosen was 2-3 for Pitt State with a run and a RBI.
• McKinney tallied a hit in three at bats and scored a run.
• Both Kala Holder and Shelby Miller went 1-3 in game one.
• Bree Cornett allowed three hits in 2.2 innings pitched as a reliever and struck out two batters. Brooklynne Simbeck suffered the loss to fall to 8-13. She allowed five runs (all earned) on six hits in 3.1 innings pitched.

Game Two: Central Missouri 10, Pittsburg State 1 (5 Innings)
Play-by-Play
• Pitt State grabbed the lead in the first inning scoring a run on an interference with the bases loaded. The Jens immediately tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a RBI single from Aliie Dishinger.
• The Gorillas threatened to retake the lead in the top of the third getting two runners on base, but both were left stranded. UCM then opened the game scoring five runs on six hits, including three home runs in the bottom of the inning.
Lauryn Deer got the hitting parade started with a two run homer to right center after Kaitlyn Markin was walked. Taylor Dames immediately followed her up with a solo home run to left center.
Courtni Smith got on base with a single to the pitcher, which set Payton Summers up for a two run bomb to left field. The Jens led 6-1 and once again did not look back.
• UCM held Pitt State scoreless in the final three innings of a shortened game two, while scoring four runs in the fourth to seal the series sweep.
• Two runs were added for the Jens thanks to a wild pitch and a throwing error by the Gorillas, which scored Dames and Deer. Smith, who originally got on base on a throwing error, was then plated home on a Hailey Crabtree double.
Emily King tacked on the 10th and final run for UCM with a single down the left field line, scoring Crabtree. Katie Giacone then closed out the top of the fifth getting three outs in four batters faced.

Jennies Stat Leaders
• Dames and Crabtree each went 2-3 in the game and scored two runs apiece with an RBI.
• Deer was a perfect 2-2 while scoring two runs and notching two RBI.
• Summers finished 1-3, with a run scored and two RBI.
• King, like Deer, also was a perfect 2-2 and had a RBI.
• Giacone picked up the win to improve to 7-5. In 3.1 innings pitched, she allowed three hits and struck out six batters, without giving up a run.

For the Gorillas
• Daniela Garzon was 1-1 and had the only run scored for the Gorillas. She also drew two walks.
• Both Emily Clark and Shelby Miller picked up one hit in three at bats.
• Chloe Holman also had a hit in two plate appearances.
• Bree Cornett and Brooklynne Simbeck both pitched 2.0 innings and allowed five runs apiece. Corbett suffered the loss in the circle to fall to 4-11 on the year.

News and Notes
Alexis Koop, Lauryn Deer and Taylor Dames' home runs against Pitt State are all the first of their careers.
Alexa Bradley's three strikeouts in game one brings her career total to 100.
• The Jennies win in game one snapped a four game skid against Pitt State. After the sweep, they are now 20-9 against the Gorillas under Susan Anderson.
• UCM's three home runs in game two are a season-high. They now have seven home runs on the season.
• With the sweep, the Jennies are now 6-0 at home this season.

• The Jennies continue their homestand with a doubleheader this Friday, March 30 against Missouri Western. Game one start time is set for 3 p.m. at Jennies Field.
