Pittsburg, Kan. (10, Feb. 2018) – Central Missouri Track and Field wrapped up the final day of competition at the Pittsburg State Gorilla Classic. Nine athletes set personal-best numbers and six worked their way into Central Missouri's all-time record list in four different events.
Throws
Nathan Cummings had a phenomenal day as he won the shot put. His throw of 58-09.25 was a personal-record and bumped him up to fourth on UCM's all-time list.
John Berry (56-01) and
Dalton Lewallen (54-06.5) also placed in the top-10, as they finished sixth and ninth, and achieved provo marks.
On the women's side of the shot put,
Ashlan Burton and
Amy Dorge finished back-to-back. Burton threw 41-11.25 and came in 13th while Dorge finished next with her throw of 41-09.25.
Jumps
Jan Jansky also had a record setting afternoon as he tied the Division II meet record height in the pole vault and reached a new personal-best. He cleared the bar at 16-08 to place second and land fifth on Central Missouri's pole vault record list.
In the high jump,
Jesse Miller's leap of 6-09 set an NCAA provisionally qualifying mark and placed him fourth in the event. For the Jennies,
Hannah VanBuskirk and
Haley Lindenbusch both jumped cleared the bar at 5-03.75, but it was VanBuskirk who placed sixth based on attempts. Lindenbusch finished ninth as she reached the height on her second attempt.
Christopher Goodwin was the top-finisher for UCM in the triple jump. He jumped 45-09.75 and finished 16th.
Sprints
It was a competitive field in both the men's and women's 60m hurdles preliminaries.
Laia Gonzalez ran it in 9.11 to place 16th, while
Drew Bodicky's time of 8.62 landed him in 28th.
All four Jennies who competed in the 400m unseeded achieved new indoor personal-record times. Central Missouri was led by
Emily Thole, who ran 57.57 and placed seventh.
Sanikee Gardner was right behind at 57.79 and finished eighth.
Laia Gonzalez (58.27) and
Destiney Nash (58.47) were 10th and 14th. Thole, Gardner, and Gonzalez also worked their way into the top-10 of the Jennies all-time for the 400m and sit at eighth, ninth, and 10th on the list.
Those same four also ran on the Jennies 4x400m relay team which came in eighth place in 3:54.45.
Two men's 4x400m relay teams finished back-to-back. The squad of
James Willis,
Matt Scaletty,
Blake Johnson and
Andre Williams took 17th in 3:18.78. Less than one second behind in 18th place was the group of
Corbin Lowe,
Noah Larsen,
Jacob Weber and
Jacob Randle in 3:18.94.
Distance
In the 800m run,
Mariah Elmore was the lone Jennie to compete in the race. She crossed the line at the 2:17.64 mark to come in 13th.
The unseeded 800m run for the men was all junior
Noah Larsen, as he took first place with a personal-best time of 1:53.81. His time earned him seventh on the Mules all-time list for the event.
Jacob Randle finished third and ran 1:54.74.
Maria Wendell represented the Jennies, as she finished the race in 2:23.50 and in 18th.
Kimberlee Sewester turned in a fifth place performance in the unseeded one mile run. Her time of 5:16.07 was a PR by 12 seconds.
Amy Marx was close behind as she finished seventh at 5:16.41, bettering the personal-best time she set two weeks ago.
The Mules and Jennies will return home next week for their final regular season meet of the indoor season before the MIAA championships. The UCM Classic will be a one day meet beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16.
