DES MOINES, IA. (Nov. 10, 2018) -- Mules wrestling opened up the 2018-19 season taking ten athletes to the Grand View Open earlier today.
Among the ten UCM wrestlers,
Allan Person was the Mules top finisher placing sixth at 174 pounds, scoring five points. Person received a bye in the first round advancing straight to the quarterfinals. In that round, his opponent Lucas Lovvorn (Baker) won by decision over Person 11-4. He received a bye in round two, before winning by decision over Chase Larson (Lindenwood- Belleville (Ill.) 8-6) in round three. In the first 0:12 seconds of the next match Person suffered an injury so Nathan Walton (Cumberland) won by injury default. For his final match of the day, Blake Joiner (Grand View ) won by medical forfeit, placing Person sixth in the meet.Â
Freshman
Martin Brunnert was the top scorer for the Mules with six points in the Fresh/Soph 184 division. Brunnert won by fall at 0:14 over Oliver Severance (Benedictine).Â
Trenton Lieurance and
Dominique Hampton both added four points for the Mules. Lieurance, who competed in the Fresh/Soph 285 won two matches, one by fall and won another in a tiebreaker. Hampton, who competed in Open 184, won one match by decision 10-8.Â
The Mules are back on the mat Saturday, Nov. 17th to compete at the UNK Open hosted by Nebraska-Kearney.
