ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Jan. 17, 2018)-- Central Missouri Mules Wrestling picked up wins at 165 pounds and 285 pounds, but forfeits in two weight classes early on doomed the Mules as they fell to 19th-ranked Maryville, 38-9, on the road. With the loss, UCM is now 3-10 in dual competition this season. 

UCM's two winners were Jesse Reser (165) and Ryan Morris (285) by way of decision and pin, respectively. With his win at 165 pounds, Reser is now 8-1 on the year since returning to the lineup.

The Mules found themselves down 12-0 early after forfeiting at 125 pounds and 133 pounds. They then dropped their next three matches before getting on the board. In his first career match, freshman Dakota Thevel was pinned in 3:54 at 141 pounds. 149 pounder Kaleb Warner had a rough outing as he was pinned in 1:10 by James Krischke who is ranked second in the country at that weight class. The Mules deficit grew to 24-0.

Shea Conley battled hard at 157 pounds for UCM going the full three periods against his opponent, but he came up short, dropping a 4-2 decision. Down 27-0, UCM got on the board, scoring three team points as Reser scored a 7-0 decision over Nick McGhee. UCM kept Maryville from posting a shutout, but the Saints did respond though, winning three of the final four weight classes.

Tyler Selemaea was shutout, giving up a 4-0 decision, while Zach Benner and Dominique Hampton each dropped major decisions. Benner was shutout 13-0, while Hampton fell 16-4. Going into the final match, the Mules trailed 38-3. Morris picked the final six points as he pinned Ethan Sherertz in 4:11. Sherertz was ranked No. 12 in Division II at 285 pounds entering Wednesday night's dual.

UCM will be at home for the first time this season to host the annual Roger Denker Open this Sunday, Jan. 21. Mat action will get started at 10 a.m. in the Multipurpose Building.
