KEARNEY, Neb. (Jan. 13, 2017)-- Central Mules Wrestling wrapped up competition at the UNK Midwest Duals Saturday afternoon. The Mules battled in three tough duals, but finished the day 0-3. They fall to 3-9 in dual competition.

Redshirt freshman Dominique Hampton led the way for UCM going 3-0 at 197 pounds. He improves to 14-10 on the season. Kaleb Warner (149), Shea Conley (157), Jesse Reser (165), Allan Person (174/184) and Tyler Selemaea (174/184) each picked up two wins in their respective weight classes. 

The Mules got the day started with a match up against the Colorado Mesa Mavericks. It was a tight match the whole way through, but the Mules fell just short of a win, 23-20. The Mavs led 6-0 early with a forfeit win at 125 pounds. Daide Agnew got the Mules within one, 6-5 with a 18-2 technical fall. Mesa grabbed the win at 141 pounds with a 6-4 decision to lead 9-5. UCM took its first lead, 11-9, after Warner pinned his opponent in 6:32. The Mavs ultimately secured the win as they won four of the six remaining weight classes. Reser started his day with a win via pin in 2:07. The final Mule to score was Hampton at 197 pounds with a 5-3 decision. 

UCM's second dual of the day came against the No. 22-ranked Mary Marauders. Mary led wire-to-wire to secure a 21-15 win. All of the Mules points came from wins via decision. The Marauders won the first three matches byway of forfeit, pinfall, and decision to lead 15-0. Warner got the Mules on the board with a 8-1 decision win at 149 pounds to make it a 15-3 team score. Conley added three more points for UCM with a 10-8 decision at 157 pounds. With five matches remaining the Mules looked to mount a comeback. They won three of the five, but the early deficit was to big to close the gap. Reser dropped his first match of the season via a 5-3 decision. Selemaea picked up his first dual win of the year with a 6-2 decision. The final two wins for UCM came from Person and Hampton. Person scored a 3-1 sudden victory, while Hampton won by way of an 8-4 decision. It was not enough though as Mary held on for the six point victory.

The third and final dual of the day saw the Mules take on the Orediggers of Colorado School of Mines. The Mules struggled in the start of the dual, dropping the first four matches, and trailed 18-0. They did bounce back winning the five of the final six matches, but no win by more scored more than three team points. Conley got UCM on the board at 157 pounds scoring a 6-5 decision to make it 18-3 on the team score. Reser bounced back from his loss with a tough 9-8 win by decision over Kennan Willits who entered the weekend ranked No. 10 nationally at 165 pounds. Person score win No. 2 with a 11-6 decision and cut the Mules deficit to 18-9. Selemaea won a low scoring match with tiebreaker to walk away 2-1. The final Mules win came from Hampton as he finished the day undefeated with a 11-7 decision. 

The Mules will have a short break before hitting the mats again. their next match is set for this Wednesday, Jan. 17, in St. Louis as they take on the Maryville Saints. Mat action gets underway at 7 p.m.
