The Week Ahead
• The Jennies will look to carry their momentum from week one into week two as they hit the road to take on a pair of Minnesota teams from the NSIC. UCM takes on the St. Cloud State Huskies Friday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m., and then travels to Winona State Sunday, Sept. 10, for a noon kickoff against the Warriors.
• The Jennies moved up one spot in the United Soccer Coaches first regular season poll to No. 4 after being preseason ranked No. 5. The Jennies went 2-0 on opening weekend with both wins coming in shutout fashion to move up in the rankings.
• Goalkeeper
Ana Dilkes opened the 2017 season with back-to-back shutouts to earn MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week honors. Her 45 career shutouts is the most in MIAA History.
Series History
St. Cloud State: UCM leads 3-2-0
The Jennies and Huskies will meet for the first time in over a decade. These two teams last met in 2006 where UCM defeated St. Cloud State 3-0. In every game of the series both team have earned shutouts in their respective wins.
Winona State: UCM leads 4-1-1
UCM and Winona State will meet for the first time since the 2013 season where both teams went scoreless and tied after two overtimes. The Jennies last defeated the Warriors in 2012, 4-2, and their only loss came against them in 2001.
Scouting the Competition
St. Cloud State
• St. Cloud State comes into week two of the 2017 season with a 2-0 record after opening the season with home wins over Northern Michigan, 3-0, and Michigan Tech, 1-0.
• After going 7-8-4 last season, the Huskies were preseason picked to fifth in the NSIC and tallied 165 points. In 2016, they went 6-5-4 in conference play and finished sixth in the regular season standings.
• St. Cloud will bring back an experienced group of players as they have eight starters from the 2016 squad plus 16 letterwinners.
• Leading the way for the Huskie squad will be junior forward Maria Kass and senior midfielder Mackenzie Winters. Kass led the team and ranked fifth in the NSIC last season in both points (22) and goals (9). Winters will anchor the defense as she has been an All-NSIC selection each of the last three seasons.
• Returning for her fourth season as the Huskies head coach is Gretta Arvesen who has had nine Huskies earn All-NSIC honors in her time at St. Cloud State. In just over four seasons with the Huskies, she is 24-25-8 overall and 19-18-8 against NSIC opponents.
Winona State
• Winona State is 1-1 after splitting the 2017 season opening weekend. The Warriors dropped their season opener to Michigan Tech, 1-0, but bounced back with a solid 4-1 win over Northern Michigan.
• After a challenging 2016 season that saw Winona State finish 8-9-1, the team was preseason picked to finish 10th with 94 points in the NSIC.
• The Warriors will boast a young squad this season, but bring back seven starters from the 2016 season. This year's squad has just two seniors, but they do have 17 players with experience from last season.
• Leading the way for Winona State will be junior midfielder Abby Bohanski, sophomore forward Courtney Wiencek, and senior goalkeeper Rachel Olsen. Bohanski was the leading scorer last season for the Warriors, while Wiencek was tied for second on the team. In net, Olsen split time with Jordan Walker who is also back. Together, the two held opponents to 1.44 goals per game and had four shutouts.
• The Warriors are under the direction of first year Interim Head Coach Dustin Beckman. A nativer of Winona, Minn., Beckman previously served as the Head Girls' Soccer Coach at Winona High School.
Carrying the Momentum
• The Jennies are now 14-8-1 in season openers and have yet to drop a season opener since the 2009 season.
• Central Missouri has out-scored opponents 48-29 in season openers.
• The Jennies are now 16-6-1 in home openers and have won their last 13 home games.
• Central Missouri is 16-7-0 all-time in the second game of the season, and they are 6-4-0 all-time when the second game is on the road.
• Under Head Coach
Lewis Theobald, the Jennies are 8-2-1 in season opening games. UCM has also started 2-0 for the seventh time under Theobald and has done so in each of the last four seasons.
The Best Defense Is a Good Offense
• UCM outscored its opponents 9-0 in the season opening weekend and posted back-to-back shutouts.
• In net,
Ana Dilkes posted her 44th and 45th career shutout and became MIAA career leader in shutouts along the way. Her shutout against SW Oklahoma State gave her the top spot in MIAA history.
• The Jennies were one of 17 current top 25 teams to go undefeated on the opening weekend of the season.
