MANKATO, Minn. – No. 16-ranked Minnesota State University scored a goal with just five minutes remaining in the match to defeat the No. 10-ranked University of Central Missouri Jennies Soccer team on Saturday morning, Sept. 5, at The Pitch.
The Jennies (2-1) are scheduled to take on Southwest Minnesota State (0-1-1) on Sunday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m. in Mankato.
Central Missouri and Minnesota State held each other scoreless for the majority of the match until the Mavericks' Callie Stanley broke through for the home side in the 85th-minute, corralling a loose ball and sliding it into the back of the net from close range for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
For the match, UCM and Minnesota State (2-0) both had 12 shots, with the Jennies edging the Mavericks on shots on goal, 5-4. Central Missouri also bested MSU in corner kicks, 4-1, but was unable to capitalize on the set-piece advantage.
Mikayla Ernst had two shots on goal, pacing the Jennies offensively.

Kristen Wright (2-1) suffered the setback in goal after allowing one goal and making three saves in 90 minutes.
Minnesota State goalkeeper Lauren McAlpine earned the win and shutout between the posts, giving up zero goals while making five saves in 90 minutes.
