Johnson's Gem Helps Jens to Win Over Mary

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Jennies softball went 1-1 to start their weekend at the Missouri Western Regional Crossover. The Jens took down the University of Mary, but fell to Winona State, putting them at 14-13 this season.
 
Game Two – Central Missouri 7, University of Mary 1
 
Jordan Johnson mowed down the Marauders through seven innings and the Jennies offense put up seven runs in the first three innings to take the second game of the day.
 
Alex Leonhart got the scoring starting with a two-out run scoring single in the first.
 
After Mary tied the game in the top of the second, the Jennies exploded for five runs in the bottom of the frame, scoring three on a Lauren Mabe home run.
 
That was all Johnson needed as she allowed just three hits and one unearned run in seven innings of work. She had one strikeout and issued three walks.
 
The Jennies sprayed eight hits from eight different spots in the order. Alexis Koop and Brittany Kendall picked up an RBI apiece and Austin Eickleberry scored on a double steal.
 
Game One – Winona State 10, Central Missouri 0 – 5 Innings
 
On the strength of a nine-run second inning, Winona State shut out the Jennies 10-0 in their opening game. Hanna Lythberg threw a one-hitter for the Warriors in five innings of work and struck out three.
 
Ali Jo Rogers got the lone hit for the Jennies, an infield single in the third. Emily King was the only other Jennies baserunner, reaching on a walk.
 
Winona State scored seven runs in the second before an out was recorded. Chelsey Rodenkirch lined a bases-loaded triple for the biggest hit in the inning.
 
Emily Robinson started for the Jennies and last 1.1 innings giving up nine runs on five hits and four walks. Allison Tonyan threw 2.2 innings in relief and allowed one run on two hits while striking out three.
 
Central Missouri is back at it tomorrow for a pair of games against Wayne State and Minnesota State- Mankato. UCM gets under way at noon against the Wildcats and the Mavericks to follow right after.
