ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – With snow falling on an off during both of Central Missouri Jennies Softball games Saturday afternoon, the Jens split a pair of games with a win over Minnesota St.-Mankato and loss to Wayne State. After Saturday, the Jennies are 15-14 on the year.
Game Two – Central Missouri 3, Minnesota St.-Mankato 0 Allison Tonyan pitched her best game as a Jennie going the distance and limited the Mavericks to four hits and no runs in the Jennies 3-0 win.
Tonyan danced around trouble all afternoon, leaving at least one runner on base in every inning, nine total. She struck out three batters and gave up four hits and four walks.
Central Missouri got on the board with a run in both the third and fourth innings.
Makayla Schoonover got the Jennies rolling, scoring all the way from first on a Mavericks fielding error.
Allie Dishinger provided some pop crushing a home run to left the following inning.
The score remained 2-0 until the sixth when
Brittany Kendall gave UCM some insurance with a one-out double and later scored on a wild pitch.
The Jens knocked eight hits against the Mavericks, two from Schoonover. The 7-8-9 spots in the order went a combined 4-for-9 with all three runs scored and an RBI.
McKenzie Paap was the only Maverick with two hits, both doubles. Libby Bemis got the start for MSU and let up eight hits and three runs (two earned) with four strikeouts and three walks.
Game One – Wayne State 5, Central Missouri 4 Wayne State got on the board early against the Jennies thanks to back-to-back-to-back homers in the second off of UCM starter
Jordan Johnson.
Central Missouri got two back an inning later on an RBI single from
Alex Leonhart and
Brittany Kendall scored on a Wildcat fielding error.
The Wildcats regained a three-run lead in the fourth on a couple of RBI singles and looked to be in control.
With two on and two out in the sixth, Kendall laced a triple to right center to clear and bases and get the Jennies to within one.
UCM had a chance to tie or take the lead in the final inning. Again with two out, Leonhart and
Emily Robinson knocked back-to-back singles, but
Hailey Crabtree's line drive found the glove of the Wayne State second baseman to end the game.
Leonhart and Robinson each collected two of the Jennies seven hits. Kendall drove in a pair of runs and scored another.
Johnson lasted five innings giving up all five runs on nine hits. She had one strikeout and walked five. Robinson threw the final two innings in relief without allowing a hit while striking out one and walking two.
Wayne State totaled nine hits with four spots in the lineup collecting two. Number nine hitter Morgan Hoag went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Cassy Miller threw 143 pitches but earned the win in the circle going all seven innings allowing four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and five walks.
Central Missouri wraps up the Missouri Western Regional Crossover tomorrow afternoon with games against Concordia-St. Paul at 11 a.m. following by Sioux Falls at 3 p.m.
