NORMAN, Okla. -- Central Missouri golfers
Travis Mays and
Cy Moritz were named to the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar Team as announced on Wednesday afternoon. The duo were two of 91 players in NCAA Division II to earn the honor.
Mays was an Honorable Mention All-American and won his second straight MIAA Player of the Year award this past season. He led the Mules with a 73.3 stroke average and registered eight top 10 finishes this season. He had four top-five finishes and captured one tournament title. He carries a 3.61 grade point average while majoring in finance and was an MIAA Academic Honor Roll member and an MIAA Scholar-Athlete
Moritz was runner-up to Mays in the season-long MIAA points standings and earned the fourth All-MIAA honor of his career. He carded a 74.5 stroke average while placing in the top 10 at four tournaments, including three top-five finishes. He was named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and earned MIAA Scholar-Athlete distinction with a 3.58 GPA while majoring in finance.
To be eligible for All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 78.0, and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
