Photo GalleryHAYS, Kan. - Mules and Jennies cross country competed in the MIAA Championship at the Sand Plum Nature Trail in Hays, Kan. The Mules finished sixth overall as a team, while the Jens took ninth place.
Senior
Michael Gawlick was the Mules top finisher. He completed the 8K course in 25:09.30 and finished 11th. Sophomore
Ty Hughes was right behind Gawlick in 12th place, in 25:11.10.
Ian Frazier (25:27.80),
Justin Howard (26:25.60) and
Ben Sporleder (26:37.30) rounded out the scoring for the Mules. UCM totaled 132 points to finish sixth in the nine-team field. Nebraska-Kearney was the team champions with 63 points while Vincent Kiprop of Missouri Southern was the individual champion, running 23:40.00.
The Jennies finished in ninth place in the 11-team field with 225 points. Freshman
Stephanie Boan led UCM, running the 6K course in 23:50.30 and finished 31st overall. Senior
Coleen Grone finished second on the team, finishing in 25:04.50 and in 34th place.
Yesenia Gomez (24:55.30),
Jenna Bartholomew (25:23.00) and
Alyx Flippin (25:26.30) completed the scoring for the Jens. Southwest Baptist was the team champion with 39 points and Katherine Sitzes of SBU was the individual champion running 21:26.20.
The team's next race will be at the NCAA Central Regional Championship in Joplin, Mo. on Nov. 7.
